In the action game [REDACTED] on Steam and PS5, you find yourselves in a prison on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. A strange disease has broken out there, which does not even stop at your own corpse in its search for a host.
Which game is this about? [REDACTED] is an action roguelike set in a sci-fi environment and takes place in the same universe as the horror game The Callisto Protocol. However, this time you assume the role of a guard in the Black Iron prison located on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. There is no multiplayer mode; it is a solo experience.
You are in Black Iron when a mysterious disease takes hold of the inmates and turns them into monstrous creatures. A rescue capsule is the only way out of this hell, but there is only one left, and you are not the only one searching for it.
[REDACTED] will be released on October 31, 2024, on Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-order customers will get access 3 days earlier and can already attempt their prison break now. You can see the launch trailer for the game here:
What does the trailer show? Aside from the setting, the game has little in common with The Callisto Protocol. [REDACTED] is much more colorful, faster, and action-packed. Those expecting a sequel will likely be disappointed. It is not, and it doesn’t want to be.
Those looking for a new action roguelike might find enjoyment here. [REDACTED] features a unique twist: you must not only reach the goal without dying but also arrive there before your rivals.
Fight against rivals and your own corpse
You are not the only one who survived the outbreak of the plague in Black Iron. Other inmates and prison guards are also making their way to the rescue capsule. You must therefore get there before them, or eliminate them during a run.
If you bite the dust, the game will even let you fight against your own reanimated corpse. This opponent retains all the equipment of your deceased guard and also learns a few new tricks. The fight is likely to be tough, but a special reward awaits you.
The Callisto Protocol was announced as the spiritual successor to Dead Space, but upon release, the game did not impress. Over time, however, the reception of the horror game has improved; you can read more about it here: Great shooter hope disappointed at release on Steam, steadily improving, now already showing “positive” reviews
