A psycho horror game on Steam uses artificial intelligence in a creative way. It perfectly mimics your teammates, so you won’t know if you’re playing with friends or hostile group members.
What kind of game is this? Mimesis will be released in the 3rd quarter of 2025 on Steam and is a survival coop game that you can play with up to 4 players. You take on the role of four survivors who must protect themselves from the dangerous rain at night.
For anyone touched by the rain loses their identity. The resulting beings then mimic the voices and actions of other people.
Since the rain only comes at night, you must gather resources during the day. Your goal is to get a tram running again, for which you need spare parts, and escape the area. So gather resources and try to survive together with your friends – and not fall for the impostors.
Mimesis uses artificial intelligence in a creative way
How does the mimicking work? To mimic your friends and yourself, the game’s artificial intelligence uses your voice and movements. This way, you should no longer be able to distinguish whether you’re playing with your friends or the AI.
If you fall for the AI, it may kill you from behind. Conversely, you may wrongly suspect your friends and mistakenly kill them.
How well this works remains to be seen. In the trailer linked above, it is at least shown that it is extremely difficult to distinguish the computer-generated voices from the real voices.
This is how AI is used in a creative way. Recently, the technology has come under fire, especially in image editing. Therefore, it is even nicer to see that AI can entertain without replacing jobs.
Can I test the game in advance? If you want to see how well this technology really works, you have until June 2, 2025, to sign up for the testing phase. Through the Steam page, you can sign up and hope to be one of the randomly selected testers.
Only one of you needs to manage to register for the test. The lucky ones will receive 3 additional invitation codes to invite their friends.
