The game “Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate” offers you a special version of chess on Steam. Instead of an army, you fight the opposing side with a shotgun.
“Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate” is a roguelike-strategy game in chess style, where you have to plan your moves carefully to defeat your opponents.
The chess game has a very special twist: You play as the black king, a rather unpopular ruler among the people. Therefore, your entire army has since abandoned you and defected to the white king.
You have nothing left but a single item: your royal shotgun. Deeply hurt by the actions of your subjects, you embark on a quest for revenge to pay back the white pieces.
The game is verified for the Steam Deck and works very well there.

What does the gameplay look like in the game? The gameplay is based on turn-based moves. In each round you can:
- move the king
- fire with the shotgun
To reload the weapon after a shot, you need to move. At the same time, you have to be careful that the white pieces do not checkmate you.
To successfully complete a level, you must eliminate the white king. If you succeed, you can, as is often the case with roguelikes, choose a random combination of two upgrades.

The trick, however, is that one upgrade is for you and the other for the opposing side. Additional pieces can be added to the board or certain special conditions in the game can apply, for example:
- Only the opposing king may come close to your game piece
- Additional ammunition and range for your shotgun
- Fewer opposing units on the board
If you are successful in shotgun chess, you might manage to decide all levels in your favor and regain your kingdom.
The individual rounds take about 20 minutes. In the game, you can choose from 15 different difficulty levels and unlock new maps. Additionally, there are also an endless mode and a hunting mode available.
