ArcheAge is a sandbox MMORPG that generated a lot of interest in 2014. However, some bugs, new updates, and pay-to-win features have led to it never becoming a big hit. Meanwhile, the developers have announced a new ArcheAge for PC, set to be released globally in 2022. However, this will likely resonate even less with many MMORPG fans.
What kind of game will it be? ArcheWorld is expected to be a sandbox MMORPG with a strong focus on play-to-earn. You will encounter blockchain technology in the game and should be able to earn money through cryptocurrency.
- The world is supposed to be completely without loading screens.
- Players will be able to build their characters from different skill sets, likely similar to the specializations in ArcheAge.
- You will be able to secure houses, pets, mounts, vehicles, and equipment as NFTs and then trade using cryptocurrency.
- The developers plan to use BORA as the cryptocurrency. In-game, you can earn the currency Archeum, which can then be exchanged for BORA.
The NFTs also affect the so-called land rush, when players in ArcheAge set out to find the best spot for housing. This takes place in the open world there. In ArcheWorld, however, these spots can be purchased in various sizes as NFTs. There should be a first pre-sale before the release.
When is the game coming out? The release is planned for the third quarter of 2022. ArcheWorld is supposed to be released globally and in multiple languages. More information about the game is expected on March 23.

ArcheWorld is not ArcheAge 2
Is ArcheWorld the sequel to ArcheAge? No. ArcheWorld is a new MMORPG from XL Games, the creators of ArcheAge. However, the focus on NFTs and cryptocurrency may deter some MMORPG fans.
But the studio is also working on ArcheAge 2, the direct sequel. This is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and aims to further the sandbox concept.
Here, too, housing, vehicles, and PvP battles are the focus. However, the developers want to avoid mistakes from ArcheAge, including the release of constant new features and revisions.
When is ArcheAge 2 coming out? The release of ArcheAge 2 is planned for “earliest 2022,” but it is not yet clear whether there will be a global version released right away.
So for those waiting for a new sandbox MMORPG or a better ArcheAge, there is still hope. However, those interested in a new crypto game can look out for ArcheWorld in the fall.
