Fallout 76, the upcoming survival MMO from Bethesda, is set to run only online and exclusively in multiplayer mode. However, there will also be private servers where you can still play solo or just with friends.
What are the reasons for the desire for solo play? Among many Fallout fans, there was great frustration when it was revealed at E3 2018 that Fallout 76 is to be a purely online and multiplayer game. Many fans love that the series allows them not to deal with other players. They want to explore the wasteland and its stories alone and at their own pace.
This wouldn’t be possible if you are constantly disturbed by other players and there are no human NPCs.
There will still be solo play in Fallout 76!
Are private servers the salvation for solo fans? Todd Howard, the game director of Bethesda, reassured all players who are not interested in a purely online game with annoying teammates in an interview. Because there will be private servers where you determine who can participate.
If you want, you can simply exclude all other players and traverse the wasteland alone. Or you can allow only your friends access. Then you can play together with a selected circle and don’t have to worry about random griefers destroying your base.
Mod support on private servers!
What about mods? Mods are always the spice of life in Bethesda games. It was the many fan-generated contents that made Skyrim and Fallout truly awesome. This probably also applies to Fallout 76.
If you have a private server, you can use mods there and shape the game according to your wishes. Moreover, Bethesda intends to position Fallout 76 as a game-as-a-service. Thus, there will be continuously new content from the official side.
Fallout 76 launches on November 14, 2018. You can already sign up for the beta test.
