If you are careless during a long rest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you might lose an item that is probably only available once in the game.
What valuable item could you lose? You could lose the owlbear egg, which you can only find once. Generally, according to some players on Reddit, it is possible to lose too much of anything that can be used as a storage supply.
This is due to the automatic resource distribution during the long rest, where you do not select the supplies used yourself, but they are added to the selection automatically.
It is particularly bitter if an item that you can only obtain once is affected. For example, a user reports that it can involve the owlbear egg (via Reddit). According to him, this fills 40 storage supplies and would therefore be sufficient for a long rest.
What kind of egg is that? In the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, you can enter a cave in the Emerald Grove, where you find an owlbear with its cub, as well as an unhatched owlbear egg.
You can take this egg and either sell it for 750 gold or use it in a later quest – provided you have not consumed it during a long rest.
If you consumed, sold, or gave away the egg in the quest, it is gone. So far, only this one owlbear egg is known.
What is the “Long Rest”? In Baldur’s Gate, you can take a so-called “Long Rest” in your camp to rest and restore health points and spell slots for all characters in your party.
However, during a long rest, not only does a small time period pass, which can immediately fail a quest, but it also consumes 40 storage supplies (80 on the “Tactician” difficulty level).
The supplies you can consume during a long rest mainly include food items such as meat and vegetables, but also drinks. However, as reported by several users on Reddit, edible items that you would rather not waste can also be used.
