The internet is full of articles and opinions about AI like ChatGTP. Currently, there is a movie on Netflix called “Her” that perfectly captures why this topic fascinates and frightens us at the same time.
We are currently witnessing a new technological breakthrough that is having a significant impact on our lives.
ChatGTP can create texts in seconds that could have come from a human. By interacting with the AI in a chat, it suddenly feels quite human with the machine. I personally cannot use ChatGTP without saying please and thank you, or I feel guilty. It’s actually crazy, isn’t it?
However, ChatGTP is not an artificial intelligence that learns on its own and becomes smarter all the time. The tool needs to be fed with data, based on which it recognizes relationships and patterns.
But what happens when we reach the next level and programs suddenly really have the ability to become smarter and develop their own consciousness?
This thought was addressed by “Her” 10 years ago.
A love story that casually shows us the impact of a true artificial intelligence
In “Her”, the lonely author Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) falls in love with his operating system, Samantha.
Without wanting to reveal too much: Of course, the film shows what happens when humanity’s own technologies grow beyond them. 10 years ago, I already found “Her” deeply fascinating. Now that ChatGTP has become a part of my daily use like Google once did, I see the film with different eyes.
There are already experiences from people who stumble over their problems with AIs and love:
- A programmer built a KI girlfriend for 1,000 dollars and had to “kill” her because she harmed his health
- My colleague Rae only talked to AIs for a weekend and wrote on GamePro about how she almost lost her mind
At the same time, you get one of the best love films of recent years. Theodore and Samantha touch you with their unusual love and the obstacles they try to overcome.
However, their story also resonates melancholically. Don’t expect a light romantic comedy here.
“Her” has been back on Netflix for a few days now. If you’re generally interested in the topic of artificial intelligence, I highly recommend it.
- For fans of: Ex Machina, Blade Runner, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Genre: Science Fiction, Drama, Love
- Rating from Her on IMDb: 8.0
- Age rating: FSK 12
- Length: 2 hours and 6 minutes
