In Fallout 76 stands the house of one of the most famous killers and psychopaths in film history. Scattered around the house are even some references to the movie in which he is the protagonist.
We are talking about Jack Torrance from the famous horror film “The Shining.” The film premiered in Germany in October 1980 and is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
In Appalachia, you can find “The Torrance House” near Charleston, next to the lake, right next to one of the villas on the roof where one of the most quirky places in Fallout 76 can be seen.

The Shining meets Fallout 76
Even the name “Torrance House” is a reference to the Torrance family, who in the movie are supposed to look after the “Overlook Hotel,” which is closed in winter. Jack Torrance is the family man who is supposed to live there with his wife Wendy and son Danny.
After a troubled past and much stress, he actually wants to use the break to write a novel there. However, he cannot settle down and eventually goes into a rage, which leads to a tragic ending.
Jack’s body still lies there
Behind the huge estate, which is still guarded by some bots, there is a maze. You can view the maze from the balcony as well as enter it yourself. There is also such a maze behind the hotel in The Shining.
If you wander around in it for a while, you will find various things:
- A box
- A pistol
- A skeleton with a fireman’s axe
The skeleton most likely belongs to Jack Torrance, who met his end in the maze behind the hotel. After having an episode, he chases his son Danny with an axe and freezes to death in the maze.
Another Easter egg: “REDRUM”
On the balcony of the house, there are also two things to find: a tricycle and right next to it a pile of building blocks that spell out the word “REDRUM.”
In the film, Danny rides the tricycle through the empty corridors of the hotel, where he has strange encounters with ghosts and reveals his supernatural abilities.
The word “REDRUM” spelled backward is the word “murder.” Danny murmurs this word repeatedly and writes it in lipstick on the door to his mother’s room. A hint of what has happened and what will happen here.
What makes The Shining special?
The Shining is one of the most well-known horror films ever. One of its most famous scenes is probably “Here’s Johnny!” where Jack Nicholson breaks down a door with an axe and threatens his wife.
Although especially this scene has stuck in many people’s minds, the film is still regarded as a masterpiece and is often adapted or analyzed in various ways.
