In The First Descendant, you want to deal as much damage as possible with your descendants to defeat a boss as quickly as possible. A YouTuber now explains: The damage per second you inflict with a weapon is related to your FPS.
What is this theory about? The YouTuber “Ryechews Games” explained in a new video that the damage you inflict per second is correlated with your FPS (Frames per Second).
He says that if you have more FPS, the actual fire rate of your weapon is higher than if you have fewer FPS. The fire rate displayed in your inventory for a weapon is therefore not always accurate. According to the YouTuber, the assault rifle “Thunder Cage” had a fire rate of 600 shots per minute for him, instead of the stated 660.
The YouTuber conducted a test with a submachine gun and calculated that the difference between 40 FPS and 144 FPS was a staggering 25%. You can find the video with the theory here:
Is the theory correct? Yes, we also conducted a small test and found that the fire rate changes with higher FPS. For our test, we chose a machine gun with a fairly low fire rate of 571 shots per minute and 108 shots in the magazine.
- At 40 FPS, it took 13.57 seconds to empty the magazine. This results in a fire rate of 477 shots per minute.
- At 120 FPS, it took 12.20 seconds to empty the magazine. This results in a fire rate of 531 shots per minute.
- The result: the fire rate of the machine gun is 11.23% higher when we play with 120 FPS instead of 40 FPS.
A higher fire rate automatically means more damage per second since more bullets hit your opponent each second.
More DPS for you, but also more damage for your opponents
What is the downside? The video from “Ryechews Games” has also made it to the subreddit of The First Descendant, where a player says that high FPS also has a downside: According to him, you not only deal more damage, but you also take more (via Reddit). Other users confirm this finding.
Whether you truly take more damage from incoming fire has not been tested yet.
Is this also the case in other games? Yes, many players are writing on Reddit that the phenomenon also exists in other games, including Destiny 2. In Bungie’s loot shooter, players are also expected to take more damage when they have higher FPS.
Similarly, in the MMORPG Black Desert, FPS are said to affect damage as well. So The First Descendant is not alone in this.
If you want to squeeze even more damage out of your FPS and firearms in The First Descendant, we can recommend a build for the descendant Gley, where your magazine never runs dry. More about this on MeinMMO: The First Descendant Gley Build: Never run out of ammunition
