In Baldur’s Gate 3 provides a certain NPC that creates plenty of memes in the community: the Withered, or in English: Withers
. The quirky skeleton with pretty poor social skills makes fans laugh with his dry comments.
Who is the NPC? “The Withered” is a mysterious and ghostly lich that you encounter early on. He joins your camp, and you can respec your class and hire mercenaries.
After you unlock him, the friendly undead accompanies you as a companion in your camp. You can talk to him at will, and sometimes he even has a good piece of advice to share.
However, he often throws pointed comments at you, whether intentionally or not. For instance, Withers mercilessly laughs at you if you don’t get to your companions quickly enough and likes to comment on your love life as well.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has prominently featured romance and eroticism – with few restrictions:
“The Withered just insulted me for not having sex”
The Withered is more of a mysterious type. We don’t know much about him, except that he throws some nasty comments. We’re curious about what else he will reveal to us. But now, back to the romances.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can enter a romance with certain companions. This is important, as these influence your relationship with your companions and even the story. Your romance can also lead to sex.
However, you need to consider the values, desires, and needs of the respective character to get them to let you in. According to Larian Studios, Astarion has already broken the hearts of over 100,000 players and rejected them. Getting him into bed seems to be difficult. Most players try their luck with Shadowheart and Gale.
What kind of comments does The Withered make? Stanton_Dowd started a thread on Reddit, where community members share their experiences with the snarky Withered. He throws quite a few nasty comments your way if you aren’t having sex – or too much of it.
Users exchange comments they received either directly from Withers or that they found quite fitting:
- Der_Apothecary wrote: “He called Shadowheart a bosom friend! She is so much more than that!”
- ImpulseAfterhought shared a supposed quote from the Withered: “Truly, if you forgo that disgusting haircut, you could sway the women.”
- Bojake110 thought an answer regarding respecing would be very fitting: “For 100 gold, I can respec you. But no amount of money can make me respect you.”
HadesCommander wrote about the Withered: “The Withered is undoubtedly my favorite NPC. We have this snarky, mysterious, undead wizard who annoys us for either not having sex or for getting too much of it.”
