If you click on NPCs in World of Warcraft Dragonflight too often, they get fed up with you – how they vent their frustration is sometimes quite funny.
There is a lot to laugh about on the Dragon Isles – not only because the quests are humorously written and there are many amusing dialogues, but also because of the annoyed voices of the NPCs. If you annoy them long enough, they will share some lines (voicelines) that will make you grin and shake your head.
What’s the deal with these voicelines? At Blizzard, it has been a tradition for decades that characters have many voicelines when clicked on. Usually, there are 2-4 different phrases that just play when you select a unit – just to provide some sound. These are mostly simple phrases like “Greetings,” or “My goods are the best” for vendors, or typical greetings of the races, like “Ishnu dal dieb” from the Night Elves.
However, many NPCs have additional voicelines that you only hear if you really get on their nerves – which generally means clicking on them repeatedly, so they keep talking. For a while, they will repeat their normal lines, but then they become “annoyed”. Then you get either much ruder comments or sometimes jokes that break the “fourth wall” and are directed straight at the player.
What is so funny in Dragonflight? Many feared that Blizzard would lose its humor and would therefore be more reluctant with jokes in Dragonflight. However, this is not the case, and you will find silly or funny lines from just about every important (and some unimportant) character on the Dragon Isles. Some highlights have been compiled by the Reddit user 3dbdotcom.
Some of the German lines are these:
- Khadgar: “Dalaran? Yes, of course. Right now it hovers over … erm … where did we leave that city? You know … I’ll need to get back to you.”
- Furorion: “You do realize I’m a dragon, right? And that I breathe fire? Just wanted to make sure.”
- Majordomus Selistra: “I’m a typically modern majordomo dragon …” (In the original English, a reference to Mass Effect 3)
- Alexstrasza: “Do you think I make a good mother?” (In contrast to the more ambiguous English original: “Do you think I have ‘big mom energy’?” )
- Nozdormu: “I knew you would do that. … And that. … and that. … Yes, that too.”
- Sabellian: “We may be few … but still … more than you.”
- Merithra: “Shouldn’t you be in bed by now?”
Note that the German lines sometimes differ from the English ones – simply because wordplay does not always translate perfectly and a different joke had to be made instead.
