With the Wastelander update and the return of humans to Appalachia, there are also new secrets and dangers in Fallout 76 to discover. One of them hides as a harmless hotel that you as a newcomer should better avoid.
What kind of hotel is this? It’s about the “Bed & Breakfast on the Mountain” just west of Foundation in Savage Divide. This quaint hotel with its friendly yellow facade has gotten new owners since the appearance of NPCs in the new Wastelanders update.

In the hotel itself, you will find some useful items like weapons, ammunition, and even a lockable safe with additional items. The owners don’t mind if you help yourselves.
The older couple Hubert and Julette manage the Bed & Breakfast and offer you information as well as rooms – for a cheap 5 caps. In return, you get a key to unlock one of the locked doors upstairs and rest.
Stylish hotel becomes a death trap
This is what happens when you sleep: From here it gets dangerous. If you decide to take a nap to earn the “Well Rested” bonus, you will be surprised in your sleep.
While you are dozing, you will already hear a door creaking as you go to bed, and shortly after you will hear some muffled voices outside your room. The voices discuss that “they” (meaning you) are already sleeping and won’t notice anything.
If you do nothing further, shortly thereafter, three cannibals will storm into your room. If you move, they hesitate and hear your movements, but will still come in shortly after.
How tough is it? The three raiders have quite strong armors, hit points, and weapons. If you haven’t reached a very high level yet and are wielding even stronger weapons, they can give you a real fight.
I conducted a personal experiment and ventured into danger with a level 8 character. Since I already knew what was coming, I was somewhat prepared – still, it cost me almost 120 shots from a makeshift pistol (level 5) as well as five Stimpaks. Amounts that beginners usually don’t have.
New players should definitely avoid this hotel – just like some dangerous camps of other players.
This is behind the hotel
If you have at least 12 points in the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat Perception, you can pass a skill check with Julette. You then ask her why she is so nervous and she replies.
Apparently, Julette and Hubert are being held hostage and are supposed to set a trap for unsuspecting wanderers. If you pass the skill check, Julette will tell you that there are cannibals in the basement.
A previously locked door can then be opened, allowing you to ambush the cannibals. This door will also open later if you follow the “normal” course.
Horror scenes in the quaint hotel
After you have killed the cannibals, you can explore the basement of the building. There, the three “Gourmets” have probably prepared their meals: On a table lies a bloody settler corpse with a cleaver next to it, which they have been working on.
Three more victims hang decapitated on meat hooks from the ceiling. Their heads are in the tub below them, with the tub apparently intended to bleed them out like slaughtered pigs.
Especially these corpses show: The wasteland is a dangerous place, and there are pretty broken people everywhere. This room could well have been staged by Hannibal Lecter himself, and the whole hotel even beats the spookiest places that have existed in Fallout 76 so far.
