The Bug Event in Pokémon GO is in full swing. Especially a bonus related to the item Incense is extremely strong. We will tell you why you should currently always use Incense when playing the Bug Catching event.
This is the Bug Event: You can catch Bug Pokémon in Pokémon GO until July 1st. The Bug Catching event grants you many bonuses and for the first time brings Shiny Lithomith into the game.
A highlight is the current Incense bonus: Currently, you attract only Bug Pokémon with the item and get the chance for rare Shinies.
Incense is extremely strong and brings rare Shinies
Here’s what exactly happens with the Incense: The event is comparable to the Incense Day. It always features a Bug Pokémon in the spotlight. The exact schedule is:
- From Friday, June 26th at 8:00 AM until Saturday, June 27th at 11:59 PM (local time), mainly Nincada will appear with the Incense
- From Sunday, June 28th at 12:00 PM until Monday, June 29th at 11:59 PM (local time), Waumpel will appear more frequently with the Incense
- From Tuesday, June 30th at 12:00 PM until Wednesday, July 1st at 10:00 PM (local time), there will be more Shuckle with the Incense
The increased spawns with Nincada are already a thing of the past, but now there are still Waumpel and Shuckle to look forward to.

These Pokémon are currently attracted by Incense
Why is this so strong? The Incense attracts exactly 60 Pokémon per hour and currently only Bug monsters. You can therefore easily take advantage of the Bug Event from the comfort of your couch without having to go outside.
Trainers on reddit report that out of 60 spawns there are about 10 to 20 of the featured Pokémon. Currently, that would be Waumpel, and starting June 30th at 12:00 PM it will be Shuckle.
However, Lithomith continues to appear regularly, and thus the new Shiny, which everyone currently wants. Lithomith is not too common in the wild – so you have the best chances at a Shiny with the Incense.
Here’s how to make good use of it: Whenever you’re going for a walk, also light the Incense. This only increases the chance of getting a sought-after Shiny.
You can also conveniently use the Incense from home. If you’re watching a movie, you can have the app and the Incense running in the background and still benefit from it.
For the Pokémon GO grandpa from Taiwan, this certainly wouldn’t be very relaxed. He is currently playing with 64 phones simultaneously. He would have to catch quite a few Pokémon if he uses Incense everywhere.
