There is the next big stir about the PlayStation 5. A leak now claims that the PS5, with 825 GB of storage, has nearly 200 GB less free space when all system files are installed and calculated properly.
This is the leak: This leak comes from Russian users on reddit, who allegedly already have a PS5. In the pictures, it can be seen that the free storage space is limited to 664 GB. In the thread about the leak, some users hoped that the system-related files would no longer be included in the 825 GB that the PS5 is supposed to have.
Sony itself only mentioned 825 GB of storage. However, it was not stated whether the system-related files would take away from the storage or not.

Just yesterday, on October 4, a Russian leak appeared. This showed the startup sequence of the PS5. However, many fans doubted its credibility.
Almost 200 GB less storage – What’s going on?
Under the leak, a user relativized the reduced storage (via reddit). He claims that the PS5 actually only has 768 GB of free storage if the “marketing error” is deducted.
On the website mac + you, the problem was explained in more detail:
- In the digital realm, calculations are done using binary numbers, where 1 kilobyte equals exactly 1024 bytes (i.e., 2^10 bits). Therefore, 1 gigabyte equals 1024^3 bytes, and 1 terabyte equals 1024^4 bytes.
- In marketing, however, a kilobyte is typically equated to exactly 1,000.
- When converting the actual 1 terabyte (1,000,202,240,000 bytes) and dividing it by the binary value for 1 gigabyte (1,073,741,824 bytes), you get 931 GB, the “real value” of the hard drive without the marketing error.
- This problem is said to also affect the PS5 according to the reddit user, which is marketed as having 825 GB of storage.
The same phenomenon also occurs with the Xbox Series X. There, the advertised 1 TB of storage actually means “only” 931 GB again.
However, there is a memory card for 240 euros for the Xbox to expand the storage.
What does the leak say about the storage? According to the leak, the PS5’s operating system subtracts another 104 GB. This means that you ultimately only have 664 GB available to download games.
You should keep this in mind: This is only a leak and no official information from Sony. Therefore, you should consider the information with a pinch of skepticism.
