Kraven the Hunter is entirely dedicated to the villain from the Spider-Man universe. The film premiered 2 days ago in theaters and nearly set a new negative record right from the start.
How did it go for Kraven the Hunter? To summarize it succinctly: Not well at all. On its first day, the film earned $4.7 million, which is approximately 4.5 million euros. Given a budget of around 114 million euros, this is a flop that probably won’t be compensated in the coming weeks. This ties it to the film Morbius, which is also about a supervillain.
For comparison:
- Even Madame Web was considered a big flop for the Marvel universe. On IMDb, the film has a rating of 4.0 out of 10 possible points. Even actress Dakota Johnson complained about the film. Yet, even this film earned about 14.6 million on its first day (via Box Office Mojo).
- There are only 3 Marvel movies that fall below the value of Kraven the Hunter. These include Howard the Duck and Punisher: War Zone (both at 1.52 million euros each) and Elektra (4.2 million euros).
If inflation is taken into account, only Punisher: War Zone would be below Kraven the Hunter. Thus, the new Marvel film narrowly scratches the poorest box office start for a film from the superhero universe. Thanks to early film reviews, it also becomes clear why the film is performing so poorly with audiences.

Critics Reveal Possible Reasons for the Failure
What are the reasons? Film critic BeHaind explains in his video on YouTube what he didn’t like about Kraven the Hunter. A major issue for him was the numerous reshoots. One can tell when a scene was added later.
In these scenes, for example, the characters say something, but their mouths don’t move. It is also not explained what makes Kraven so special and what the potion is that gives him his powers. For him, the film is a “collection of cobbled-together scenes” that he cannot recommend. The “terrible CGI” also adds to the issues.
Our colleagues from Filmstarts share a similar view. They rate the film with only 2.0 out of 5 possible stars. They describe the film as “damn boring,” as there are too many dialogues and too little action. The quality of the CGI animals drops, and the interaction of the well-known actors is disappointing.
Another film that flopped despite having a top star in the cast is 65. This is a sci-fi film with dinosaurs. You can read here what led to this film’s failure: A sci-fi film with dinos became a flop that everyone has forgotten – Failed despite top star at the box office.
