Tech pioneer and billionaire Mark Cuban spoke in an interview with Bill Gates. He asked Gates what he would do if Windows 10 were to be used again after his departure. Cuban references a recent switch of a basketball star that has greatly affected him.
Mark Cuban is a tech pioneer, best known as the minority owner of the professional basketball team Dallas Mavericks. In 2023, he sold part of his club.
In an interview with Microsoft founder Bill Gates, he discussed what Gates would do if his successor made a crazy decision: to reverse the change from Windows 10 to 11 and continue using Windows 10.
Bill Gates would hide from the press, referencing a sports event in the USA
This is what Cuban asked: The billionaire spoke with Bill Gates at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. And here he asked the attending Microsoft founder in front of the audience:
If you found out, after leaving Microsoft, that Steve Ballmer exchanged Windows 11 – the new, hot operating system – for Windows 10, the famous but older operating system, what would you do?
The audience laughed at Cuban’s remarks, and after the question, the full hall applauded. Gates smiled at the question and replied:
I might have to hide from the press.
“I know a few other people who are in this situation,” Cuban responded to this answer. He referenced a recent switch at the Dallas Mavericks that has caused quite a stir in the USA.
What exactly happened? The professional basketball team Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers, making headlines. The online magazine Dallas News states: “If a bomb had actually exploded in Dallas, it probably wouldn’t have made as many headlines.”
Support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025
What’s next for Microsoft? Currently, Microsoft plans to officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. For a fee (around 30 Euros), support can be extended for another year, but then it will also come to an end.
According to the “Steam Hardware Survey”, Windows 11 is currently in first place among gamers with 53.46%, but Windows 10 is also popular among players with 42.87%. Linux and MacOS are negligible at under 1.4% (Mac) and 2.06% (Linux). Therefore, millions of players will need to switch operating systems before October 2025 if they want to continue receiving updates.
Why do many gamers still use Windows 10? Windows 11 is not very popular among many users and gamers. This is mainly due to the very restrictive policy with which Microsoft sells its latest version of Windows 11: older hardware is no longer supported, and only with tricks can the restrictions for old hardware in Windows 11 be bypassed.
Generally, there are several reasons both for and against upgrading to Windows 11. We have detailed what speaks for and especially what speaks against an upgrade to Windows 11 on MeinMMO.
