The second part of the third season of The Witcher has arrived on Netflix, and with it comes the farewell of Henry Cavill as the Witcher Geralt. And this is meant to be epic, but also particularly gentle, says director Bola Ogun – a final, big hurrah.
As the last scenes of the third season of The Witcher were filmed, the team led by director Bola Ogun already knew that these would simultaneously be the last scenes with Henry Cavill as Geralt (via polygon.com).
Since so much happens in the season, it felt like the conclusion of a standalone chapter. The last block was more emotional, but that was intended, says Ogun.
Here you see the trailer for The Witcher Season 3 – the last with Henry Cavill in the role of the Witcher Geralt:
“It’s a great final hurrah”
Here is what Bola Ogun planned for the last episodes: For Bola Ogun, each episode is intimidating in its own way when it comes to shooting. For episode 8, it was important for the director to say goodbye to Henry Cavill “properly.” The style of the last block is more emotional – that is intended.
According to our colleagues at Moviepilot, the finale has become a best-of of the character Geralt.
The director wanted to provide Cavill with an epic farewell:
When it came to this episode, I wanted to focus heavily on the political espionage and the magical themes of the Brokilon Forest and show more of that than we have in the past, in a different way. So I wanted to really dive into the feeling of magic, the feeling of something changing.
Basically, it was about creating a continuation while making it seem different so that it feels like a long, gentle farewell.
[…] I just wanted to say goodbye to him in an epic way. And it’s epic. It’s a great fight. It’s a great final hurrah.

She will miss Henry Cavill, “because he is a great Geralt.” But she knows that Liam Hemsworth “will take on this role just as well and bring the same seriousness to it.”
Even Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) believes that Hemsworth will be “brilliant” in the role. You can find out more here with our colleagues at Filmstarts.
Who is Bola Ogun? Bola Ogun is a Nigerian-American film director. She directs the last two episodes in The Witcher Season 3; previously, she directed in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone for 2 episodes. According to IMDb, both Shadow and Bone and The Witcher are among the best fantasy series of all time.
Ogun decided to pursue the path of a director because she was inspired by the lack of contributions from women at past film festivals (via blueprintafric.com). She wants to create a platform for marginalized and underrepresented groups on screen.
Henry Cavill is not only saying goodbye in The Witcher but also as Superman. MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski was initially sad when she heard that Henry Cavill is leaving DC.
She had the opportunity to see the new DC superhero movie The Flash in a special screening. A major highlight for her was the new Supergirl played by Sasha Calle:
