It is a bargain, several thousand euros reduced. Reddit prevents the lucky one from losing his PC with RTX 4090 again immediately.
The title image is symbolic.
What kind of PC did the player buy? Reddit user PrestigeMaster reported in the Subreddit pcmasterrace about a six-hour trip during which he snagged an amazing deal: a gaming PC with Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 and an Intel Core i9-13900K for the equivalent of just under 1,100 euros.
According to Techpowerup, the 4090 is still the fastest gaming GPU almost two years after its launch. The Intel CPU is no longer at the top, but still belongs to the top ten (via hardwaredealz).
As prices on Ebay for used hardware show, he would have saved at least 1,000 euros in Germany – the GPU alone costs about 1,800 euros. With CPU, motherboard, SSD, and RAM, the total value is likely to be over 2,500 euros.
The Reddit community was able to share in PrestigeMaster’s happy trip home – to his luck. After his purchase, he posted a photo of the packed back seat of the car. Someone spotted a detail in the photo that could have cost the lucky new owner his PC.
He could surely thoroughly and enjoyably test his new top hardware in these shooters:
Heavy is the burden of the graphics card
How did the player almost destroy the PC? Reddit user Carl_Chocolate advised the lucky buyer to support the GPU or lay the computer down. If a PC is transported upright, there is a risk of damaging the PCI-Express slot via which the graphics card is connected to the motherboard or even destroying the graphics card completely.
During shocks, the entire weight of the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 repeatedly falls down and pulls at the socket. Neither the socket nor the connector for the graphics card inserted in the socket is designed for this. Moreover, this specific graphics card is a large and correspondingly heavy device.

The rest of the hardware is less at risk even when standing upright. However, the CPU cooler also feels more comfortable during transport when the PC is lying down.
What solution did PrestigeMaster find? Laying it down was not an option; there wasn’t enough space, as he reported in a comment directly under the post. He stopped immediately and improvised: He squeezed air out of an empty plastic bottle and wedged it underneath the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090, so that it rested on it. Nevertheless, he felt the three-hour drive home was a sweaty affair.
Our expert assessment considers his solution okay, but it would have been even better to lay the PC down additionally. Ideally, he should have secured it and spared himself the anxious sweat by removing it and placing it in a safe and padded container.
We report elsewhere about a brand new and extremely fast gaming CPU from AMD that wasn’t meant to have a long life in a gaming PC. Its owner made a tragic mistake during installation that even attracted the attention of YouTube giants and the hardware manufacturers: Player buys AMD’s fastest processor and destroys it due to a simple mistake
