Rainbow Six: Extraction
Genre: Co-op Shooter | Developer: Ubisoft | Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S | Release Date: January 20, 2021 | Model: Buy2Play
What kind of game is this? In the co-op shooter Rainbow Six: Extraction, you play as an operator who must fight against mutated aliens. While the setting is not innovative, the implementation is very good. With an intense horror atmosphere and gameplay that rewards slow and stealthy approaches, the game requires a lot of coordination and cooperation.
You can start the various missions alone with AI support or with up to 3 players. Missions and enemies are randomly generated, which adds variety. There is no PvP mode like in Rainbow Six: Siege.
How is Extraction doing currently? Extraction had a mixed year in 2022. The last update was on May 10, bringing a new prestige system as well as minor adjustments, but it was not a major content patch. After May 10, there was a long silence on the official channels.
On December 5, a roadmap for 2023 was published, promising the return of events, new game modes, new enemy types, and new operators. However, the first update is not expected until February.
That’s why I believe Rainbow Six: Extraction will die in 2023: The bold call of the year goes to Rainbow Six, especially considering that the developers have just announced four updates for the upcoming year.
What makes me suspicious, however, is the long drought of news. Between May 18 – Yay, there’s new prime loot – and December 5, there wasn’t a single news update or game update.
While there is now a rough plan that includes new operators and new content, I don’t believe the shooter will be able to hold on for long. There are simply much better co-op games out there. Maybe I’m just a year early with my prediction, but I assume Extraction will be given up soon.
