Elyon
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Bluehole | Platform: PC | Release Date: October 20, 2021 | Model: Free2Play
What kind of game is this? Elyon places you in a steampunk world where, while completing quests, defeating world bosses, and exploring dungeons, the focus is on PvP.
You participate in huge 100v100v100 battles where siege weapons and airships play a role. You can use mechs as well as magic.
Elyon stands out with its action-packed combat system. Through runes, artifacts, and other equipment, you should also have many freedoms to support your playstyle.
How is Elyon doing currently? Elyon was released in October 2021 as a Free2Play MMORPG on Steam and had the chance to reach really high numbers. Even Bless Unleashed, which bears the stigma of Bless, managed to have over 70,000 simultaneous players at peak times.
- However, Elyon only started with 15,381 players at launch and received weak reviews.
- In the last 30 days, this MMORPG reached a peak of 2,403 players. That’s less than 2% of the numbers New World just achieved (124,000 at peak).
- In fact, Elyon even underperformed compared to Swords of Legends Online, which reached nearly 3,700 players at peak during the same period as a Buy2Play MMORPG.
In January 2022, there were server merges, resulting in only one server for Europe and one for America.
That’s why I believe Elyon will die in 2022: In addition to its size issues in the West, Elyon has another problem. Even in its own home country of Korea, it does not play a significant role.
While MMORPGs like Lost Ark (ranked 2), MapleStory (ranked 8), or Aion (ranked 10) are at the top of the gaming charts in Korea, Elyon fell out of the top 50 just two months after its release. Even smaller games like Blade & Soul and TERA are still in it. Moreover, server merges already took place in Korea in the summer until only one was left.
Therefore, my outlook for 2022 is rather bleak. Elyon will release a new class in January, but then will slowly but surely continue to decline in player numbers. For the developer Bluehole, which had two significant successes with PUBG and TERA, the numbers simply seem too weak to support the MMORPG in the long term.
