Rebirth Online – A new MMORPG with a catastrophic launch
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Caret Games| Platform: PC | Release Date: August 3, 2020 (Early Access) | Model: Free2Play
What kind of game is this? Rebirth Online is a new Free2Play MMORPG that launched in Early Access on Steam on August 3. The game visually resembles Bless Online and aims to deliver familiar content of the genre, including:
- An exciting and action-packed combat system
- An open world that should accommodate hundreds of players
- Four playable classes – Ranger, Sorcerer, Hunter, Berserker
- Various dungeons and raids
- Crafting
- Different types of gear and skills
- Various PvP modes
How is Rebirth Online doing currently? At its launch on Steam, the game was severely criticized. One day after release, Rebirth Online had 90 % negative reviews. Now, it has “only” 66 % negative reviews, but most still advise against playing the game.
The primary criticism is that it resembles a mobile MMORPG. The graphics and interface are tailored to that, and the maximum resolution is only 1680×1050. There’s also auto-battle, and the default language is not English, which makes switching languages challenging.
The criticism regarding the mobile look is not unwarranted, as the Korean developer Caret Games already has Rebirth M, a pure mobile game from 2017, in its portfolio. Clearly, this game seems like a sort of PC port of that title.
That’s why I believe Rebirth Online will die in 2021: Rebirth Online currently averages around 30 players. At peak, only 71 players were playing concurrently at launch (via Steamcharts). That’s a weak value.
Rebirth Online is not a good game on PC. Therefore, I believe that this version will be shut down in 2021, even though it is still in Early Access.
Rebirth M for smartphones, on the other hand, will likely survive a little longer. The game has at least 4.2 stars with over 13,000 reviews in the Play Store.
