I played an MMORPG with 79% negative reviews on Steam and it is even worse than expected

The MMORPG Sacred Saga Online was released in 2017 on Steam. It currently has 38 reviews, of which 79% are negative. MyMMO editor Alexander Leitsch played it and finds: It is even worse than the reviews suggest.

MMORPGs are my passion, and I love to constantly try out new titles. Last year, I wrote about the MMORPG with the worst reviews on Steam, where it was important for me that it received at least 100 reviews and did not use autoplay.

For this article, I ignored both factors and found the truly worst MMORPG. Because Sacred Saga Online not only looks graphically miserable, but it also does everything completely automatically – even character creation, if you don’t prevent it quickly enough.

During my approximately 37 minutes of playtime I felt more like I had to fight against the MMORPG rather than enjoy it.

Alex is the MMORPG expert at MyMMO. He began his adventures in 2006 in Guild Wars and has since tried over 70 different MMORPGs. His favorite games right now are Guild Wars 2, Black Desert, and New World.

The game fights against me because it plays more efficiently anyway

Sacred Saga Online is a player full of hustle. I start the client, and directly a countdown begins for character creation. 30, 29, 28…. Panic breaks out because I want to start the recording program and speak a little intro for my video.

In fact, the MMORPG randomly selects a class in my first two attempts and gives the character a random name. Since there is only one slot, I have to hit the delete key twice before I can make my own experiences with the editor .

However, I have hardly any options for my character anyway. I can choose between the classes Knight, Mage, and Archer and enter a name. There are no adjustments for appearance; all characters in the game look completely identical.

Sacred Saga Online Character Editor
This is what the editor looks like, with a timer under the button “Play Now”.

In the game world itself, however, it gets even more bizarre. My character starts running like it’s been stung by a tarantula right after the loading screen and beats up the first mobs. It independently takes quests, completes them, and hands them back to the quest giver.

Additionally, the game independently buys healing potions, teleports to other maps, and even equips new gear. The gameplay isn’t even particularly impressive, as abilities are only unlocked at level 14. Before that, there’s only the auto-attack.

Quickly, I get the feeling that Sacred Saga Online doesn’t want me to play it. Because whenever I try to take control briefly, the MMORPG independently overwrites my commands. I click to the left – away from the actual quest path – but before my avatar reaches the spot I clicked on, it turns around and instead focuses on the quest.

Auto-playing is incredibly effective. There is constantly fighting or teleporting; there is virtually never a break. I can’t even manage to adjust graphics and sound settings because something is always happening in the game that closes the windows again.

After just a few minutes, the numbers in the game also become completely unrealistic. After about 30 minutes, my Sputti has already reached level 40 and a gear score of 17,800. Nonetheless, the attacks do only about 300 damage.

The craziest players in Sacred Saga Online have reached level 200 and a gear score of 58.8 million.

I can turn in quests and spin slot machines

After this description, you might rightly ask: What is actually my task in the MMORPG? Well, on the one hand, I can turn in quests, because the automatic submission only occurs after 10 seconds. So I can save a lot of time here! Also, when developing abilities, I can have some input and click a bit in between.

Furthermore, action windows are blinking everywhere in the interface. Behind these are battle passes, shop offers, login rewards, and slot machines like in the arcade. I can use some content for free once per day, while others want huge amounts of real money from me.

Completely crazy are the login boards for real money. I buy a window for 1,000 Euclases (10 Euros) where I get back Euclases for daily logins. So I just need to log in and put a stamp on the board. If I indeed log in 30 times within 30 days, I receive a total of 9,000 Euclases back, which is equivalent to a value of 90 Euros.

In the reviews on Steam, two users note that they could not even manually close the game and needed the Task Manager to do so in the end. It was the same for me. So it not only plays itself, it also actively tries to prevent its shutdown.

Even the only positive review written about the game doesn’t sound that great:

It has breasts, hahahaha, and a Pegasus crawled out of my butt. I love the auto-play so I can walk my dogs or cook.

By the way, during my “test,” several people were in the chat and also had VIP status. So there really seem to be players who have invested money in this MMORPG…
