On Wednesday, February 23, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris was back on Twitch. But the biggest streamer in Germany seemed unwell. He said it wasn’t a big comeback yet, and he didn’t know how he was doing. He is still in a tough phase of his life. However, he felt the need to return for a “small stream.” At the peak, 60,000 people wanted to see the streamer from Buxtehude.
This is the situation:
- MontanaBlack is the biggest Twitch streamer in Germany. With streams of shooters like Fortnite and Call of Duty, he built a virtual following of over 4.3 million people. This ranks him 33rd worldwide on Twitch.
- But MontanaBlack also frequently makes headlines with controversies. He was banned from Twitch for misogynistic behavior and was publicly criticized by ZDF satirist Jan Böhmermann for allegedly steering youth towards the far-right.
- In the last 2 weeks, he had been
missing from Twitch and social media. A dental surgery under general anesthesia had taken a toll on him physically, and there were also personal circumstances outside the internet that MontanaBlack doesn’t want to talk about. But now he is back — at least a little.
MontanaBlack was banned from Twitch for misogynistic behavior:
MontanaBlack says he’s “better than totally awful”
This is what MontanaBlack says about his return: The 33-year-old streamer looks a bit unwell as he sits in his gaming room and greets his audience:
I hope you all are doing well. I hope you were able to bridge the time while I wasn’t live. This isn’t some “I’m fully back now” talk. It might also be that I won’t stream for another week after this. I’m seeing how I feel about it. Right now, I felt the need to come online for a little moment. Because, of course, I felt like something was missing in a certain way.
MontanaBlack said, however, that he is still not entirely back to normal. He hasn’t even found the strength to reply to all the colleagues and friends who checked on him and wished him a quick recovery.
For him, it’s an overwhelming feeling to turn on the live stream and see hundreds of people sending him positive, but also negative messages and wanting something from him.
“Mentally and physically at the end” – “Still in a tough phase”
What does he say about the reasons for his absence? MontanaBlack did not want to comment on that yet. In addition to the dental surgery, there seems to be another aspect that is occupying him “in his head”:
It should be solely my decision whether I want to say something about it or not. Currently, I don’t consider it essential.
He had been mentally and physically at the end. One should respect his need for a break. It is still a tough phase in his life, but the last few days have been somewhat better:
So better in the sense of ‘still crap’, but better than ‘completely awful.’
His break has nothing to do with NFTs, in any case. There had been “things” in his life 15 days ago that he did not expect. They apparently pushed him into a crisis. For a week and a half, he stopped eating, living only on iced tea and cigarettes.
Then, the surgery came on top of that.
MontanaBlack can already smile again when he is asked about “gray hairs” – that’s just the bright light. After all, he is only 23 years old, as his fans know:
No triumphantly staged return
How did the stream go? Monte streamed for over 3.5 hours, the first stream in 10 days. At its peak, 59,707 people watched him – an average of 47,388 people. This is slightly above his average for the last 30 days, but it was no “huge highlight.”
Some streamers stage their first stream after a long absence as a big event, announcing their return weeks in advance and aiming to break records on Twitch.
That was clearly not the case with MontanaBlack. There was no grand staging, just a stream to say that he is feeling better. At least better than totally awful.
Recently, MontanaBlack also found himself entangled in some controversies:
