Some players find Elden Ring not difficult enough, so they attempt challenges that make the game even harder. However, one player found his challenge to be too difficult.
What challenge did the player attempt? On Reddit, the user derp3000 posted a message titled “I finally made it to Maliketh in my RL1 run, but at what cost?”
An RL1 run is a playthrough in Elden Ring where the character level (also known as rune level) is not increased. While you can use any other aids, the character must always remain at level 1. In this case, the user attempted the run presumably with an XBOX controller.
The new DLC for Elden Ring “Shadow of the Erdtree” will be released soon; here you can watch the trailer.
The price for the challenge is a new table
Why does he have to pay a price? The Reddit user also shared a picture in the post showing his shattered desk. There is a crater visible that he presumably caused out of anger at the game.
His desk not only has a crater but also has a crack in the middle. The price that derp3000 has to pay for his challenge is a new desk, yet despite it being broken, he continued to play.
In an update under the post, he shares more details. His desk is the “cheapest IKEA desk and, as some of you have already mentioned, is made of quite thin cardboard.” He would complete his playthrough only with melee weapons and would use “no summons, no spells, no parrying, and no ranged attacks.”
In the meantime, he has also defeated the boss Maliketh, as he shares in another update. So, the journey continues with a broken desk.
What does the community say about him? The Elden Ring community has mixed reactions to the picture. Vestele1 writes on Reddit: “Maybe challenge runs aren’t for you.”
To this, the creator of the Reddit post responds: “I appreciate the concern expressed here in the comments. Believe it or not, I don’t have severe anger issues in my life, as some of you claim. This is also not being posted out of ‘pride’ as commented. It is more a kind of self-irony; I find it somewhat humorous. I see that some of you do not, and that’s okay.”
bakeliterespecter takes it humorously on Reddit: “Respect the zeal. Completely destroy the desk by the end of the run and burn the ashes as a sacrifice to the outer god of your choice. The naysayers in the comments can be sent back to the putrid depths of the nerd tree.”
If the creator of the post ever needs help, he can still refer to the community legend that takes care of other bosses: Elden Ring: Community legend is tired of defeating Malenia for you: “I’ve had enough of it”
