Fortnite Chapter 2 is finally here. Our author Eilyn has played a few rounds and gathered some impressions. Although she likes the new Fortnite, the game is not treating her well.
After all the waiting for the Season 10 Live Event, I was quite excited and looking forward to the new season. When the Update 2.10 was finally available, I had to play a few rounds immediately.
I was totally surprised and impressed by all the new features that were now in Fortnite. However, there quickly came a round that almost ruined the hype for me.
Trying out new features? Nah, not you
I wanted to try out the new features in the game at my leisure. So I started a round of Team Rumble, as you can respawn there repeatedly. Nevertheless, everything went wrong during the trial and quickly turned into frustration.
What happened while boating: I landed in the middle of the map and looted a house there. When I walked outside, I saw 3 teammates in a boat. I quickly ran over because I wanted to ride in a boat as well.
Once I got in, we set off and I was really excited. Suddenly, I heard gunshots and just saw my health bar drop quickly.
I was eliminated by an opponent 5 seconds after I sat in the boat, and then I was the only one left. What bad luck!
This happened when I wanted to fish: In the same round, I found a fishing rod and thought I could try fishing. I walked to the nearest river and saw a lot of fish there.
Fishing was about to begin! Just as a fish bit, an opponent drove by in a boat and shot me down.
I could now forget about my fish.
After that, I didn’t feel like trying out the new features anymore and faced the battle.
5 reasons why I like the new Fortnite despite the bad luck
Even though I had a rather unfortunate first round, I was able to experience many positive moments in the following rounds. I like the new Fortnite, and here are the reasons:
The new level-up system: I usually buy the Battle Pass every season and have always diligently completed all challenges to level up the pass.
With the new level-up system, you are no longer so tied to these challenges and can just enjoy the game.
You now receive additional experience points in-game for certain actions. When you:
- open chests
- open ammo boxes
- get eliminations
- assist in eliminations
Carrying teammates and opponents: I find this new feature quite fun since you can also carry opponents and throw or kidnap them. 2 Twitch streamers were kidnapped this way.
But it is also very useful as support for your own team. In a long-range fight, you can simply carry the teammate on your back and get them to safety.
New graphics: The new graphics in Fortnite are beautiful and appealing.
The colors are vivid and remind me of “Save the World”. The various weather changes in the new locations have been well designed.
Smaller weapon selection: I like the new weapon selection because there are not so many weapons in the game anymore.
It reminds me of the beginning of Fortnite when everything was simpler. You have what you need and don’t have to spend hours thinking about which weapon to take.
New map: The new Fortnite map was long overdue. Now it is finally here, and in my opinion, Epic has done a pretty good job with it.
The map is not overcrowded and still offers cool places to explore.
Moreover, the feeling at the locations has been well captured. The sound ambiance and the weather fit perfectly with the places.
So far, I really like the new chapter of Fortnite, as it strongly reminds me of the first seasons.
With the skill-based matchmaking and the bots, the game feels much more balanced, and I’m really enjoying playing again. You don’t always run into “sweats” and can also experience a relaxed fight with good chances of success.
Since I no longer have to chase every single challenge to level up my Battle Pass, I can focus on the game itself again.
I hope this state lasts a little longer. And maybe Fortnite will be a bit kinder to me when I want to fish or boat.
