The most fun I had in an Assassin’s Creed was with MeinMMO author Ody with the installment that, at first glance, has the least to do with the rest of the series – and he is not the only one. On PS4 and PS5, you can get the game with DLCs for less money than a classic movie theater visit costs.
Although I have played most of the Assassin’s Creed games and really enjoyed most of them, I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of the series today. Maybe that is one of the reasons why I had the most fun with the game that resembles the least to the origins of the series.
The game I’m talking about here is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The game was released in October 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Thanks to backward compatibility, you can also play it today on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Especially PlayStation players can save quite a bit – in the PS Store, the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Gold Edition is available for €14.99 instead of €99.99. It includes all DLCs as well as remasters of Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed Liberation. A movie theater visit with popcorn costs you more and will keep you occupied for much less time.

The best new Assassin’s Creed – says Metacritic
I have spent more time with this installment than any other in the series – over 330 hours. But it’s not over yet: Even today, I love getting lost in the game, its world, and its stories for a few hours.
With this feeling, I’m probably not alone. After all, Odyssey is ranked as the fifth-best AC on Metacritic and the best among the new games (meaning all parts released after AC Syndicate).
In fact, Odyssey, with its strong focus on classic RPG mechanics such as loot amounts, detailed damage values, character builds, and choices, has less to do with the origins of the series than most other installments.
Moreover, our character doesn’t even have the hidden blade, one of the hallmarks of Assassin’s Creed!
A worthy entry in the series even without assassins
Nevertheless, the game convinced me, especially with its story. It is refreshingly different because the main motive is not revenge. Instead, we embark on an odyssey through the war-torn Greece of the 5th century BC to find our family.
In both the main and side stories, we also make decisions that have real consequences. At many points, decisions are not easy to make, which makes them even more significant in my eyes.
Fans of the assassins also get more in the DLC “The Legacy of the First Blade”. Those who want to dive deeper into the lore of the so-called Precursor should not miss “The Fate of Atlantis”.
Even without assassins, AC Odyssey contributes a lot to the world-building of the series. Additionally, even 7 years after release, it is so beautiful to look at (and listen to) that I sometimes stand by the sea for minutes to watch and listen to the waves.
