Mould King
The strength of Mould King lies primarily in the technical area: you can find large excavators, big trucks, and cool racing sleds in their portfolio. Besides that, there are also smaller and larger sets, such as plants and architecture. However, the focus is clearly on display sets, which are meant to be showcased and not intended for play.
What I see as critical: Like BlueBrixx, Mould King sells sets that clearly have similarities to Star Wars or other well-known universes. Mould King seemingly does not possess an official license, but I could not find anything concrete about it.
My current favorite set from Mould King is a vehicle that looks suspiciously similar to the vehicle from Ghostbusters. The instructions and building blocks are absolutely okay in any case.
Who is it worth it for? If you are looking for extensive technical sets, then Mould King is the right place for you. The sets are sometimes quite expensive but generally come out cheaper than the competition from Denmark.
Bonus: Cobi and CaDA
Cobi and CaDA (or CaDA Brick) are two other manufacturers that at least one should have heard of, and I want to mention them as a bonus at the end:
- With Cobi, the focus is primarily on military sets, which you will never find at LEGO. LEGO has consciously decided not to include military sets in its assortment.
- CaDA focuses mainly on vehicles that you can motorize. In addition, both manufacturers also offer smaller sets from various areas.
I have not had any contact with Cobi yet, but I have purchased two different motorized vehicles from CaDA. The control via the app is terrible, but the control via the remote control is well done. The building process is very easy due to good instructions.
Who is it worth it for? If you like driving cars, check out the small, sometimes very affordable sets from CaDA. Here you can now also find some licensed vehicles and models. If LEGO does not provide enough tanks and military options for you, you can indulge yourself with Cobi.
After all, time is not standing still for LEGO either. LEGO is introducing a completely surprising innovation in its building blocks after many years: a smart brick that is supposed to have various capabilities and bring completely new functions to LEGO products: LEGO is launching a smart brick, calling it the “most significant development” in 50 years
