Pokémon GO determines the location of other players using GPS and real-time localization. A woman has now discovered a very practical use for the Team Play function.
What else is Team Play good for? With Team Play, multiple trainers can join together as a group. The avatars of all group members are then displayed on the map within the game.
In a reddit forum, a woman reports that she found her lost husband in the supermarket this way. In a picture, it can be seen that the building is somewhat larger. Possible shelves and walls could have caused them to lose sight of each other.
However, thanks to Pokémon GO and the Team Play function, the lady sees her husband’s avatar standing in the other corner of the supermarket:
While the husband was doing the grocery shopping, his wife was browsing in the Halloween decoration department. After some time, the husband could still be tracked thanks to Team Play. She writes that this discovery made her feel “like a genius”.

What do other players say about it? In the comments, there are numerous users who are enthusiastic about the use. Many had not thought of using Team Play to locate lost family members or friends.
LZP2003, for example, writes that her twin sister would never answer her phone when she called. Therefore, she always has to ask strangers if they have seen someone who looks just like her. Through Team Play, she doesn’t have to ask anymore and doesn’t come off as a crazy person.
Other users think even further: they believe this type of localization can also be used for other activities. One user mentions group shopping as an example. We can easily imagine that the function could work just as well in amusement parks, at trade shows, or other large events.
What is Team Play? With Team Play, trainers in Pokémon GO can form their own group to overcome challenges together. In a raid battle, there is a new bonus called Team Power that can be activated. This doubles the damage of charged attacks.
There are even team highlights that can be shared with others. However, Team Play is subject to some conditions:
- The maximum group size is 4 persons.
- The function is only unlocked at level 15.
