With Malcolm in the Middle: Unfair as always, the cult family is back. After 20 years, Hal and Lois are back, still happily married despite the long time. The actors revealed in an interview why that is.
Since April 10th, you can watch the return of Malcolm in the Middle on Disney Plus. This is almost 20 years after the last episode, which originally aired on May 14, 2006. In the new series, Malcolm has to face his old family with his new family, which he has long neglected.
This happens on the occasion of Hal’s (Bryan Cranston) and Lois’s (Jane Kaczmarek) 40th wedding anniversary. They are still happily married, unlike the main characters from Scrubs. The actors of both characters know exactly why the couple still works after all these years.
The marriage of the two is also positive for the viewers
What are the secrets of Hal and Lois’s marriage? In the context of the new series, Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston spoke with Deadline about their characters from Malcolm in the Middle. Kaczmarek immediately recalls a reference to episode 5 of season 1: They have good sex. I mean, I have to say that. And I don’t think they let that prevent them from being the heart of the family.
In the episode, Hal and Lois argue constantly after they have to live in a trailer because their house is being fumigated. They realize at the end of the episode that they need to have sex to resolve their conflicts, and they ultimately buy gas masks to get into their house.
Cranston gives a more detailed answer and explains that Hal’s character is simply romantic:
I believe, however, that he does it out of fear. I think Hal does all these things because he thinks: “Oh, will she ever leave me? I feel like I have to keep showing her how much I love her.”
The love and marriage between the two has, according to Cranston, a positive effect on the viewers. It conveys a feeling of security to the audience because they stay together, no matter what happens. The family in the series is crazy, but their love allows them to dive into any imaginable kind of escapades [without problems]

Regarding the marriage of the characters, Kaczmarek also praises the script of the series. According to her, they were lucky to play these characters for so long.
