Currently, the Premier Cup of the Hyper League in PvP is running in Pokémon GO. There are numerous Pokémon that are useful, which many might not have considered before. We will show you the best Pokémon for the Premier Cup.
What’s new: On August 10th, the Hyper League of Season 3 started in PvP. You can fight in the PvP League exclusively with Pokémon up to 2500 CP until August 24th.
Since Season 3 the Premier Cup for the Hyper League has been available. In the previous season, it was only available for the Master League.
What is the Premier Cup? In this cup, you can only compete with non-legendary Pokémon. Monsters like Cresselia or Giratina, which are really strong in the Hyper League, are thus excluded.
Other Pokémon are needed, which means you can’t use your usual teams anymore. We will now show you some monsters that are suitable for the Premier Cup.
The best Pokémon for the Premier Cup
Swampert: Both as a Shadow Pokémon and in the normal version, Swampert is really strong. With Hydro Cannon, it has one of the best charge moves in PvP and also brings a lot of variation with the second charge move Earthquake.
Swampert can defeat popular monsters like Charizard or Gengar and is therefore quite likely to be favorable.
Venusaur: As a Shadow and in the Normal version, Venusaur is really strong. With the charge move Frenzy Plant from Community Day, it deals a lot of neutral damage. Mud Bomb is a useful second charge move.
Venusaur is especially strong against Swampert, which you will likely encounter quite often. Otherwise, it also defeats Pokémon like Togekiss or Machamp.
Abomasnow: This Pokémon has become significantly stronger since the move adjustment at the end of July. The fast move Powder Snow now does more damage, and it now has the ice move Weather Ball, which is really good in PvP. For a second charge move, we recommend Energy Ball of the Grass type.
Abomasnow might not be on many trainers’ radar yet and wins against Venusaur and Swampert. So you could surprise some opponents with it.
Gengar: Since the Community Day with Gastly, Gengar is also useful in PvP. With the charge move Shadow Punch, Gengar is a strong, general attacker.
If you don’t have the right counter at hand, bring out Gengar and deal some neutral damage. This could allow you to swing the round in your favor.
Froslass: This Pokémon also benefits from the move adjustment at the end of July. Since then, Aerial Ace is also stronger and elevates Froslass to a higher level.
With Icy Wind as a fast move, you will be more versatile and can stand up against almost all starters.
Machamp: Not only in raids and gyms is Machamp a real weapon. In PvP, it can use the charge moves Cross Chop and Stone Edge to surprise some trainers.
Pokémon like Charizard or Lapras can be well defeated by Machamp, and otherwise, it is quite sturdy unless it faces Psychic, Fairy, or Flying moves.
Cavalier: This Pokémon might surprise many trainers, but it is quite strong in PvP. It can learn moves from various types, and as an opponent, you never really know which moves will be used.
We recommend Counter, Mud Shot, and Drill Run as moves for Cavalier. This way, it can even defeat Swampert or Venusaur with proper use.
Dragonite: This dragon Pokémon is mainly a strong all-rounder and can defeat numerous Pokémon. With Dragon Claw and Hurricane as charge moves, it has a quick attack, but also an effective, longer charge move.
Which monsters are still worth it? The list of strong Pokémon for the Premier Cup is long. Where one Pokémon is strong, the other monster is weak. If you can’t manage with the aforementioned monsters, we will show you some alternatives here:
- Togekiss with Charm, Flamethrower, and Air Slash
- Snorlax with Lick, Body Slam, and Heavy Slam
- Lapras with Ice Shard, Surf, and Skull Bash
- Charizard with Fire Spin, Blast Burn, and Dragon Claw
- Empoleon with Waterfall, Hydro Cannon, and Drill Peck
- Berrycannon with Counter, Night Slash, and Trash Throw
- Chestnaught with Seed Bomb, Solar Beam, and Leaf Tornado
- Typhlosion with Dark Claw, Blast Burn, and Solar Beam
What you need to consider when building your team: You should pay close attention in your team selection to cover many type weaknesses. It won’t help you to have a strong team where every Pokémon has the same weakness.
Make sure your Pokémon are effective against as many other types as possible. This way, ideally, you could effectively respond to every Pokémon of your opponent.
If you are still looking for strong Pokémon for the PvP League, we recommend the Tier List for each League of Pokémon GO. There, we show you the best monsters from each league so you can build a really strong team.
