PS4 players will soon have the opportunity to hunt creepy monsters as bounty hunters. Hunt: Showdown will be released on PlayStation 4 in February 2020. Is this new game worth it?
When is Hunt: Showdown coming out? After PC and Xbox One players have been enjoying the creepy atmosphere of Hunt: Showdown for some time, the PS4 release was delayed.
As Crytek recently announced, the PS4 release will take place on February 18, 2020.
Is there more to come? Alongside the PS4 release, Crytek also announced new content. Update 1.2 is set to include the following features:
- random trios
- an expanded tutorial
- new legendary hunters
- new gear and weapons
- server improvements
At a later date, more updates will come that will include cross-play between consoles, a solo PvE mode, as well as live events and outfit customization. Finally, another map is also planned.
What is Hunt: Showdown?
This is Hunt: Showdown: In the game, you take on the role of a bounty hunter hunting monsters in 1895. However, you are not alone: Hunt: Showdown is a hybrid of PvE and PvP elements.
The catch is that not only do the monsters you hunt pose a threat, but also other players. In a classic match, a total of 12 bounty hunters hunt simultaneously – either solo or in pairs and trios.
Who is this for? If you expect a fun monster hunt, you are mistaken. Because alongside the oppressive survival aspects, the Hunt world itself is not exactly inviting.
The monsters, such as the insane, burning zombie “Immolator”, seem to have sprung from your worst nightmares.
It is possible to perform tactical and stealth maneuvers, as well as just shoot blindly. Nothing about either is relaxing – Hunt: Showdown is aimed at players looking for excitement. Because: If your character doesn’t survive the match, he is completely lost, and you have to start over with a new hunter.
What do players say?
Here’s how the game scores in reviews: Looking at the reviews on Steam, the survival game is doing quite well. On average, it has been rated “Very Positive,” and the individual reviews also sound mostly favorable: “This game is really cool and sometimes really challenging. You have to be quick and careful at the beginning, listen carefully and look around,” explains a Steam user.
The team aspect is also highlighted: “It can be quickly at the beginning that you run into enemy hunters. Team play is required, best with a friend you’re on the phone with.”
The user “RuhrpottGamer” is also satisfied and highlights, for example, the sound of the game: “The heart of Hunt Showdown. You should definitely play this game with good headphones and turn them up loud.”
The sound contributes to the atmosphere and is an important gameplay element: “Steps, rustling grass, ravens getting startled, or other triggerable objects in the game, like glass, sound extremely realistic and can be precisely located with good headphones.” His overall conclusion: “Hunt Showdown is a game that requires you to take your time to achieve success. It is unique and realistic in terms of gameplay.”
On reddit, the game is compared to Escape from Tarkov, which offers a similarly high-tension atmosphere. However, this is complemented by the horror element of the monsters in Hunt: Showdown.
Hunt: Showdown will be released on February 18, 2020, for PS4 and is expected to cost 39.99 euros. The download should begin on the release day.
