In Destiny 2, a huge leak reveals a new element, the return of old enemies, and even content from 2022 – Why might there be something to it?
This leak is about: A ton of information about the future of Bungie’s MMO shooter Destiny 2 has leaked that does not come from official sources. It concerns specific details about the upcoming DLC Witch Queen (2022) as well as many contents that will appear in 2021.
In principle, you could find and report such leaks on the internet every week. However, this particular leak seems to have more validity than pure fanfiction – that’s what many Guardians agree on.
It includes mechanics from the Vault of Glass, story secrets from the Dreaming City, including the return of Mara, and special celebrations that connect Halo and Destiny 2. MeinMMO presents the most important information and assesses how likely they are.
Spoiler warning: Attention, potential information about upcoming content follows – you have been warned!
Why should I believe all this?
Reasons in favor: The leak originates from January 2021 and is a collection of countless separate entries (via Discord). The last time, the information was updated in April 2021 with more entries, so this is not a brand new leak.
What’s interesting is that nearly everything shown about the ongoing Season 14, which started on May 11, has since occurred or been confirmed by database findings. Other information regarding the already completed Season 13 has also occurred as the leak had predicted.
- Calus’ daughter appears and makes Zavala’s life difficult, as was said before Season 13.
- Changes to the loot quest system have also occurred.
- The release of the new Strikes on Nessus was also predicted.
- The exotic appearance of the Erbe has received the new catalyst as the leak announced.
- In the Vault of Glass, you will have to deal with Vex Wyverns starting May 22: This has been confirmed by visible Triumphs.
- Per season, players receive new 4 Stasis fragments and one new aspect per class, which has been validated in the last two seasons.
As a lot of content from the leak has proven true, Guardians are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming content, which we are trying to summarize clearly for you. But remember, these are not official statements from Bungie, and skepticism is warranted.
The leak reveals about the DLC “Witch Queen“
This new element is coming: With the next expansion, you should receive new focuses with the previously unknown element “Vapour” – meaning something like steam. The new element is said to focus on damage over time (DoT), explicitly stating in the leak, “just like with Thorn.”
This would be the second element of darkness. With Beyond Light, we received the icy Stasis abilities at the end of 2020. Guardians have been speculating for a while that the next element of darkness will be called Corruption and will function like Thorn or the exotic gloves Necrotic Grip.
Here are more details about the DLC:
- Osiris has been flipped or replaced by Savathûn.
- The titular witch queen will return the real Osiris to us Guardians if we eliminate her worm (this gets complicated, as in the lore, the Hive and their leaders like Oryx are dependent on an ever-hungry worm that gives them power but essentially eats them).
- Current weapon lore entries talk about the takeover of a character, and a new weapon is even called “Empty Vessel” and is supposed to speak not from the weapon but from Osiris (via Light.gg).
- The final boss of “Witch Queen” is not Savathûn, Xivu Arath (3rd sister of Oryx), or Quria (a Vex spirit now under Savathûn’s control).
What we know officially: So far, solid information from Bungie itself about the next expansion is sparse. We know that “Witch Queen” has been postponed to early 2022. Additionally, it is known that Savathûn will be the new main enemy of the DLC.
It is also known that Savathûn is attempting to “turn” Guardians. Osiris would be a good candidate as he is constantly disappearing and hanging out beyond the light’s boundaries. At the end of 2020, speculations and leaks regarding the new location of the DLC also emerged:
According to the leak, however, after “Witch Queen” and the DLC “Lightfall” following in 2023, there won’t be an end. Bungie wants to stick with the Destiny franchise indefinitely and refers to the plans for the future as “Codename Sunspot.” But until then, there is still a lot of time, what will happen in the immediate future?
This is what awaits Guardians in 2021
Do we already know Season 15? The current season of the Splicer ends in August 2021. According to leaks, the Season of the Lost will follow directly after. So roughly, something like the season of the lost. The following things have been leaked, which will likely be the focus of the season:
- Mara Sov, the queen of the Awoken, is returning.
- The story of the Dreaming City and the never-ending curse will be told to an end.
- The weapons from the Dreaming City will receive new perks and a new light level.
How likely is this? Everything sounds speculative, but it could just as easily be true. At some point, the Dreaming City will enter the Content Vault – that is confirmed. Before that, Bungie must or should conclude the longstanding questions surrounding Mara Sov and the curse.
That the old weapons are returning with new perks has become common practice, which is very likely.
These are the additional details from a leak for 2021:
- Eramis, the nasty Fallen lady from Beyond Light, is said to be returning “soon”. Currently, she is frozen in ice on Europa.
- A new dungeon is set to arrive in 2021. Dungeons are like small raids for up to 3 Guardians, which are very popular in the community. As of now, Destiny 2 has three such dungeons.
- In the currently completely unknown dungeon, a new exotic is waiting.
Bungie is planning something big for the 30th anniversary, says the leak
This is how the anniversary will be celebrated: Bungie, the studio behind Destiny, was founded on July 19, 1991, and celebrates its 30th birthday this year. Guardians are supposed to celebrate the anniversary as follows:
- Destiny 2 is set to receive the iconic Magnum from Halo as a new weapon. This gun was OP in PvP battles of Halo Combat Evolved (2001) and some veterans still have nightmares from the headshots.
- More content from Destiny 1 is set to be pulled from the Content Vault.
- With “many” exotic quests and festive armor, Bungie will celebrate Halo and the classic game Marathon (1994) in Destiny 2.
- The leak also mentions that the content is supposed to be available through a bundle in the shop.
How likely is that? Hard to say. The rights to Halo do not belong to creator Bungie but are with Microsoft and managed by 343 Industries. However, Master Chief has appeared in Fortnite, and Halo is set to receive the latest installment “infinite” in 2021. So Microsoft would likely not be completely averse to a promotion.
In the databases of Destiny 2, there is an emblem called “10,950 Days” (via Light.gg) which mathematically represents 30 years. Bungie already celebrates Bungie Day annually, so for the big anniversary, one could at least expect something.
This is how the return of the Vault of Glass will look
One of the highlights of the still-earlier Season 14 starts on May 22: The Vault of Glass will open its doors again.
This is what the leak reveals about the raid: As mentioned at the beginning, the leak reveals that in the soon-to-begin raid, Vex Wyverns are expected as new enemies. These are the large, bipedal robots from Beyond Light that no one really likes.
The known Gorgons are said to have 12 times as many hit points as they did back in Destiny 1. They were the enemies in the labyrinth who could be killed but were meant to be avoided. This fits with Bungie’s statements that we Guardians have become significantly stronger since 2014 (it seems 12 times stronger).
The individual raid encounters do not start automatically but begin when you manually interact with something. Aside from that, the leak only contains information that has since been confirmed by Bungie or can already be found in databases:
- The Vex Mythoclast is returning as a raid exotic.
- 6 legendary weapons from the Vault of Glass are returning with random perks. Atheon’s Epilogue (automatic rifle) and Praetorian Foil (fusion) are missing.
- An exotic ship is waiting for the Guardians.
By the way, Bungie has reportedly acknowledged that the Deep Stone Crypt was too easy – which has been a heated topic of discussion in the community. Will this have an impact on the Vault of Glass? After all, a hard mode has been announced for July 6.
What do you think of this extensive leak about the future of Destiny and the next expansion? Do you believe a word of it or are even the old predictions just coincidence? Let us know in the comments which of the potentially revealed secrets you are most looking forward to.
