In the leaderboards of Season 25 in Diablo 3, players are currently exploding with insane best times. An exploit ensures that players clear Greater Rifts level 150 at incredible speed. Now there are fears that Blizzard may have to take harsh measures. But how harsh?
What is happening in Diablo 3? Since December 10, the new Season 25 has been running in Diablo 3. Even now, not even a week after the start, an exploit is ruining the gaming experience of the community. Competing with other players on the leaderboard is an important part of a season – exploit users currently have unfair advantages.
In the video, you can see how the exploit looks for the Demon Hunter in the Greater Rifts. Since the method is already widespread, players are now afraid that Blizzard might restart the season. That would be a drastic step.
This is the Demon Hunter exploit in Season 25
What does it look like? In a stream by Diablo expert Wudijo, a player from the Asian servers was observed using the exploit live in his stream. The player in the clip is playing a Greater Rift level 150. This is the highest difficulty currently offered in Diablo 3. Normally, players struggle with the rifts and take significantly longer for it.
We embed the clip from Wudijo’s stream here, which observes the exploiting player on another live streaming platform:
The runs of the shown player typically last less than two minutes for a complete rift including the rift boss. This type of exploiting has already spread in the community.
Even on the European servers, there are now players who need crazy little time in the Greater Nephalem Rifts level 150. In the following screenshots, you will see a comparison of the top places in the duo leaderboard – where always two players play together – and in the solo leaderboard.
How does the exploit work? Players exploit unwanted mechanics that apparently cause terrible damage for Demon Hunters.
It is unclear whether the exploit has only existed since Season 25 in the game or if it has only now come to light. The whole thing is connected with bringing the servers to lag. We will refrain from providing a guide or possible derivation at this point. Anyone who uses exploits puts their account at risk and risks a ban.
Update from December 16: We spoke with Diablo expert Wudijo about the issue. He tells us how the exploit works and why users should be banned without hesitation.
Players fear season restart – “I would be very unhappy …”
What players are saying: On reddit , user VERTIKAL19 writes that players are making speedruns in GR150 with a huge exploit. He suspects: “Maybe a season restart is coming?”
But a restart is not a solution for many players in the community for this problem. They fear the consequences if Blizzard really does that.
- “I would be very unhappy if they restarted the season at this point. I’m sure they can do something with the logs on their side and find those who cheated in order to possibly ban them,” writes Pezmage.
- b0xf0x13 writes: “I know they restarted the Asia servers because they made a mistake. But if they restart the entire season, then people will [flee en masse]”
- “I don’t think they will restart the season. But I can imagine they will ban the people who used the exploit or reset the leaderboards”
How likely is a restart? Such a drastic step of restarting the entire Season 25 seems unlikely at this point. Players have already pumped many hours into the new season. There would likely be an uprising if the entire playtime were to be in vain.
A reset of the leaderboards or the removal from the leaderboards of banned players who used the exploit seems more likely. The question is how Blizzard will handle the players who were in a group with the exploiters but did not use the exploits themselves.
