Destiny 2 has received a new quest weapon in Season 13, the grenade launcher “Salvager’s Salvo.” We clarify how you can quickly master the quest and whether it is similar to the Mountaintop 2.0.
This weapon is about: The grenade launcher Salvager’s Salvo is a new legendary weapon from Season 13. It is the only new quest weapon in the Season of the Chosen.
- Quest weapons can be earned through a specific quest.
- The grenade launcher has fixed, predefined perks and traits – essentially a hand-picked God-Roll by Bungie.
Thus, Salvager’s Salvo inherits the legacy of prominent weapons like the Recluse or the Mountaintop. MeinMMO tells you if the new quest weapon from the Season of the Chosen can compete with the former top weapons and how to quickly get it into your inventory.
The Quest “A Lot to Do” Gives You Freedom
This is how to get Salvager’s Salvo: First, go to weapons master Banshee-44 in the Tower. From that robot, you will receive the quest “A Lot to Do.” The special thing about this task series is that you can complete it in all three core activities.
You will earn quest progress
- In Strikes (PvE)
- In Gambit (PvEvP)
- In the Crucible (PvP)
This worked in Season 12 with the quest sniper Adored through 3 separate quests. Now you don’t have to commit to a single activity, but can switch freely as you please. This is excellent for the season start, as playing different activities also quickly boosts your power level.
This is what the quest wants: To obtain Salvager’s Salvo, you must achieve two objectives. You can tackle both tasks in parallel or one after the other.
- Collect 7,500 points: Points are awarded for every kill in Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit matches. If you use a grenade launcher or grenade abilities, you get significantly more points per kill.
- Complete matches: You will receive about 3% for each completed core activity. If you play harder Nightfall Strikes or win Crucible and Gambit matches, you will receive about 5%.
Quickly Unlock Salvager’s Salvo in Season 13
Here’s how to quickly get 7,500 points: You should fully commit to a grenade launcher loadout. Equip a grenade launcher as both your special weapon and your power weapon. Recommended perks include Auto-Loading Holster, Clown Cartridge, or Ambitious Assassin. So, all perks that recharge your weapon or increase magazine size.
Strong options that allow you to clear areas quickly include the exotic Succession or Deafening Whisper – the legendary grenade launcher from Season 12 that leaves an energy field on the ground.
In the power slot, you can use Explosive Payload from the Season 12 battle pass or the Anarchy exotic. If you want to go all out, feel free to equip 3 grenade launchers.
It’s also important to pack the appropriate mods. This way, you can constantly throw grenades.
- Grenade Launcher Scavenger costs 3 energy and is equipped in the helm
- Grenade Launcher Loader costs 4 energy and is equipped in gloves
- Enhanced Reserve for Grenade Launchers costs 3 energy and goes in the chest
- Grenade Launcher Plunderer costs 3 energy and belongs in the boots
- Don’t forget that grenade ability kills also give points. So invest in Discipline.
Here’s where you can get many kills: To farm kills quickly, it is recommended to rampage in Strikes. Here, you will often find ammunition and plenty of weak enemies.
- During the Destiny week from Feb 9 to Feb 16 (start week of Season 13), you should try your hand at the Nightfall: The Ordeal. The Strike “Devil’s Lair” is active – especially in the boss room, hordes of Fallen spawn that you can quickly annihilate. After about 4-5 runs, you’ve already reached 7,500 points – if you diligently use grenades and grenade launchers.
These activities are the quickest: Strikes give you a lot of points, but are usually significantly longer than the other two options. We recommend Gambit matches. They finish quickly (5-10 minutes) and if desired, you can also rack up good kills here.
- Alternatively, currently at the season start, the Crucible is a good option. From Feb 9 to Feb 16, the Witch’s brew playlist is active. The rounds here end after 5 minutes. The best thing: you don’t have to be a good PvP player because here you only need to spam your super ability and heavy ammo spawns frequently.
How to Get Fancy Ornaments for Your New Quest Weapon
Once you’ve mastered the quest “A Lot to Do” and Banshee-44 has handed you Salvager’s Salvo, you can upgrade the weapon – at least visually. You now have access to 3 additional quests.
- Zavala sends you on strike activities and wants to see grenade launcher kills
- The Drifter wants you to collect particles in Gambit and perform grenade launcher kills
- Lord Shaxx requires grenade launcher kills in PvP and 6 rank-ups (Valor)
As a reward, you will receive an ornament from each NPC, allowing you to give Salvager’s Salvo a new look:
How Strong Is Salvager’s Salvo?
This is what the grenade launcher can do: Salvager’s Salvo deals Arc damage and is a back-loading grenade launcher. This archetype requires special ammo, but normally only has one grenade in the magazine before you need to reload.
The good news: yes, Salvager’s Salvo always comes with “Precision Grenades” in the magazine.
What does the perk selection look like? With quest weapons, you can select two perks for perk slot 1 and slot 2 respectively. With other legendary weapons, you usually only find one perk here, with which you have to make do. This way, you can adjust the weapon depending on the activity.
- Ambitious Assassin (Slot 1): Reloading after a kill gives you 2 shots before you need to reload again.
- Demolitionist (Slot 1): Kills with this weapon give you grenade energy and kills with grenades reload this weapon.
- Vorpal Weapon (Slot 2): Increases damage against bosses, guardians in their super and vehicles.
- Chain Reaction (Slot 2): Kills with this weapon cause the target to explode in an Arc explosion – if the explosion kills a target, it triggers the next explosion.
The usability of the weapon is also benefited by the fact that with Season 13, back-loading grenade launchers have been buffed. The projectiles now detonate on direct hits and do not ricochet without causing damage.
Can the New Weapon Compete with the Mountaintop?
This is the area of use: Salvager’s Salvo is excellent for quickly decimating large groups of adds. Especially with Chain Reaction and Ambitious Assassin, you clear the battlefield quickly. You can also use the weapon against bosses, but here the grenade launcher may not shine as much.
- According to Ehroar, it is a myth that the mod “Dragonfly Spec” makes the weapon even stronger (via YouTube) – but Salvager’s Salvo doesn’t need that at all.
- If you don’t have the mod yet, you can find it at Banshee-44 in the Tower. Watch out for the daily rotation or obtain it randomly at rank-ups.
Once it became known that a grenade launcher as a quest weapon was being hunted in Season 13, comparisons with the Mountaintop arose. However, it turns out that Salvager’s Salvo is more comparable to top weapons like Either-Or (fusion rifle). So you have a great weapon for cleaning up, rather than a DPS or burst monster.
Conclusion: Salvager’s Salvo is a very good and certainly achievable option for the special slot, which leaves you the valuable exotic slot for a power weapon like the Gjallarhorn or the recently buffed rocket launchers.
