Valheim is actually a game that you play from a 3rd-person perspective. But thanks to a mod, you can now experience the adventures in first-person.
What exactly is this mod? The modification “First Person View” by kailen37 allows you to play the survival hit Valheim from a first-person perspective. You no longer see the character in front of you, but are right in the action.
This way, Valheim can be played just like without the mod. Only the battles are a bit harder to master, as you need to estimate distances anew to hit your opponents with the weapons.
A video shows how Valheim looks in first-person. It creates a completely different atmosphere.
How do you install the mod? If you want to try “First Person View” yourself, follow these steps:
- First, you need to download the BepInExPack from the website
- Extract the files to a directory of your choice
- Move the contents of the BepInExPack_Valheim folder to steamappscommonValheim.
- Download the “First Person View” mod via Nexusmods
- Copy the downloaded file CameraMod.dll into the plugins folder of Valheim, which you can find here: steamappscommonValheimBepInExplugins
- Start the game and zoom in closer and closer until you are in first-person view
In the file CameraMod.Kailen_.cfg, which you can find in the ValheimBepInExconfig directory, you can make adjustments with a text editor, including to the Field of View (FOV).
Does it work smoothly? Mod creator kailen37 explains that it is still an early version of the modification. You should expect some issues, including:
- There are issues with the use of a shield
- If you use the bow, it obscures a lot of your view
- You cannot aim up or down with the bow
- Sometimes you can see through body parts of your character
kailen37 continues to work on the mod and wants to release new, improved versions. However, it is not yet known when these will appear.
