Blue Protocol celebrates its release in Japan on Wednesday, June 14. However, you can register from outside and experience the launch. With a trick, the game content will even be automatically translated into English, so you can at least understand the basic content.
How does participation work? You can already preregister for the release of Blue Protocol and download the client. You don’t need a VPN for this at first.
- First, visit the official website of the MMORPG in Japan and click the button at the top right. Through this, you can create a Bandai Namco ID. You need to provide an email address and a password. In the next step, you should select your region. Of course, select “Asia” and then “Japan” – even if you are from Germany.
- In the second step, you need to download the client. You can get it on this subpage of Blue Protocol.
What happens next? If you have created an account, you can theoretically start playing. The Terms of Service state that only players from Japan are allowed. Bandai Namco has also acted against testers from the West during the beta and banned them.
However, we have already spent several hours in Blue Protocol without a VPN and the account is still intact. Therefore, you do not need a VPN, but your account is safer if you use one. In general, though: It can happen at any time that your account gets banned. Consider the Japanese version as a kind of beta test.
Translate any game into English with a simple trick
How do I change Blue Protocol to English? There is no official patch with English translations. However, you can bypass the issue with a small trick.
To do this, first install the Japanese language pack from Windows. Just search for your language settings and add Japanese at the bottom.
Next, you need to download the program MORT (via Github). It is free and ensures that the texts are automatically translated in a selected area of the screen using Google. While this does not provide perfect translations, it should be sufficient to understand the basic game content.
In MORT, you first need to select the screen area that should be translated. Then, in the “Translation” tab, select the translation from Japanese to English. You can also create various settings and shortcuts for the translations.
How does the translation work? You can adjust the area that should be translated at any time with CTRL+Shift+A. You will automatically have a blue window open in which the respective text is then translated. You can move this window and resize it as needed. This way, you can place it directly over the game or on a second monitor.
Why should I play in Japan? Blue Protocol is not set to release in 2024 in the West. There is currently no specific date, but it is certain that you will have to wait at least 6 months for the release. If you don’t want to wait, you can start playing immediately. However, you probably won’t be able to carry your progress over to the EU version.
The release in Japan can be a kind of “extended beta” and give you an insight into the game. If you like it, you can continue playing in Japan or look forward to the release in the West. If you do not like the gameplay, you do not need to “hype” yourself further.
