Destiny 2 aims to revolutionize its armor system with Armor 2.0 at the launch of the Shadowkeep expansion. You should no longer have to choose between aesthetic appeal and functional benefits for your Guardians. Now the studio has revealed more details about this system.
What is Armor 2.0? Bungie refers to the armor system to be introduced in Destiny 2 this autumn with the Shadowkeep expansion. This is expected to change drastically compared to the current model.
Players will finally gain more freedom to customize their gear so that they no longer have to compromise between looking good and functionality.
Armor pieces will essentially function as a kind of shell with some stats. You choose a piece you like visually or customize it further with a universal ornament from the Eververse and can then adapt it to your individual wishes and needs with various mods.
So you will finally be able to be both attractive AND efficient – which has been more of an exception in Destiny 2.

Where do the new information come from? Fresh information about the upcoming armor system was shared in another exclusive interview by Bungie with the US site Polygon. There, Destiny Franchise Director Luke Smith and Destiny General Manager Mark Noseworthy chatted a bit about Armor 2.0.
Bungie has now revealed the following about Armor 2.0
Initially, Bungie wanted to know whether the Shadowkeep expansion would bring more customization options for the individual Guardian classes – a widely requested feature among fans.
Bungie heard the feedback and wishes of the players but stated that nothing would change in this regard in autumn. Instead, they primarily focused in Shadowkeep on separating the aesthetics from the gameplay aspect of armors – namely in the form of Armor 2.0.
Then the following details were provided:
- There will be numerous new mods for armor pieces that can be found or crafted. The exact number has not yet been determined. Work is still actively being done on this – as well as on how powerful the individual mods will eventually be.
- Armors will have an energy system. This means players will be able to charge or level up armor pieces with energy, thereby increasing the mod capacity of the individual pieces. Players should feel more powerful as they develop their armor.
- Moreover, the number of stats on an armor piece will be doubled. The current stats, mobility, health regeneration, and resilience will be supplemented by intellect, discipline, and strength. These will also reduce the cooldowns for your super, grenades, and melee, as in Destiny 1. The three original stats will also become more noticeable. However, players will have to wait until they find out what this specifically means.
- These stats and the mods will be the two main pillars of Armor 2.0. The different stat combinations should ensure that the hunt for a good-looking armor piece remains exciting, while the mods allow players to tailor these armor pieces to their own playstyle.
- Additionally, an appropriate example was provided. Players who like to optimize their builds down to the smallest detail and invest in their gear can get a lot out of it.
- Moreover, you will be able to stack mods. So if you are totally into hand cannons, you can stack 2 reload mods for hand cannons on the same pair of gloves. The effect will stack and yield more in that specific area. Targeted specializations will thus be possible.
It is thus clearly moving more towards RPG – something many fans have been wishing for a long time.
