Today, the last wing of the Eternal Palace raid opens in World of Warcraft. We will tell you how to defeat Za’qul and Queen Azshara.
Since this morning (14.08.), the third and final wing of the Eternal Palace raid has been open and can also be attempted in the LFR variant. In this wing, you will face Za’qul, a harbinger of N’Zoth, and at the end, there is the epic final battle against Queen Azshara herself. The whole experience rewards you not only with loot but also with an interesting cutscene. We will tell you how to survive both bosses without dying.
How to defeat Za’qul
The last wing only has two bosses, but they are quite challenging. Especially Azshara can be tough in LFR as she has a few nasty mechanics that can take down inexperienced groups.
Za’qul: The penultimate boss has a lot of abilities to watch out for and requires some practice. At the beginning, he creates a black ring around the battlefield—anyone standing inside will take damage. So, this ring should not be left and marks the area you have available for this boss fight.
At regular intervals, Za’qul summons a large portal at the edge of the battlefield. After a few seconds, a tentacle shoots out in a straight line. Players hit will take high damage and get knocked back—potentially into the dangerous zone outside the ring. The tentacle can be easily avoided, just watch for the portals at the edge of the combat area.
Furthermore, Za’qul repeatedly summons 3 minions that do nothing but channel a large spell. If this spell is completed, the raid is likely to die. At the beginning, you can fight the adds normally, but later you will have to go through portals that are located directly with the adds. Activate the additional button here to switch to the realm of fear. There, the adds can take damage.
Za’qul sometimes slams the ground and calls three red circles in a straight line in front of him. A strong damage dealer should stand in each circle. Players in the circle will be sent to the realm of delirium. Here, they have extremely increased speed and deal more than double damage. However, players will also take continuous damage here—but don’t worry: If you die in the realm of delirium, you will be resurrected in the “normal” realm and briefly stunned. You can therefore stay in delirium as long as you want.
Tanks should also ensure to pull Za’qul into large shadow areas that he calls one to two times per minute. If Za’qul is standing in the area when it explodes, he will take additional damage for a while.
How to defeat Azshara in the Eternal Palace
The fight against Azshara consists of several phases and is quite complex. We will limit ourselves to the absolutely necessary mechanics to be able to stand against her.
The core mechanic in this fight are the protective runes on the ground, which are indicated by an additional interface element. Azshara tries to weaken the “good” runes (yellow) while strengthening her own rune (purple). Players can recharge the runes by standing on them. However, this applies a stackable debuff that reduces their maximum health by 10% each time—at 10 stacks, you are dead. Pay attention to the state of the runes and always help to recharge them. However, never collect more than 5-6 stacks of the debuff and wait for it to wear off before wanting to recharge runes again.
Phase 1: In the first phase, you fight against the Cursed Lovers. They must die simultaneously, or else the other partner will enrage. Meanwhile, adds will constantly spawn that must be killed, or they will attack the protective runes.
Azshara constantly casts Arcane Balls that players must absorb (just stand in the ball).
Sometimes, Azshara summons some players to an image of herself—run away quickly before your character automatically approaches the image. If he reaches it, he will be trapped and must be rescued by other players.
Phase 2: In Phase 2, you will initially only fight Azshara and learn her abilities. The tanks must pull her from rune to rune so she doesn’t fully drain one. When Azshara casts “Arcane Detonation,” you must break line of sight—hide behind a pillar.
Some players will also be affected by a debuff that will make them explode after a while, dealing damage to all players in line of sight. The affected players must go out of sight themselves.
Phase 3: In Phase 3, you must fight against Azshara and two of her Sirens. The Sirens position themselves on the protective runes and must be defeated before they completely consume them. Azshara continues to use her already known abilities and must also be pulled around by the tanks.
Phase 4: In the final phase, more abilities are added. N’Zoth intervenes and occasionally fires a laser across the room—don’t get hit; it deals high damage.
The console in the starting area of the room overloads at regular intervals. You can recognize this by the small balls flying around the console. Players must go to the console and “unload” it, triggering a random effect each time. One effect ensures that the affected player will inevitably die after 40 seconds. This is basically a passive enrage timer for Azshara.
If you pay attention to all these tips and hints, the queen of the Naga should not pose a problem for you. After all, the difficulty in LFR is rather low, so it should succeed after a few attempts at the latest.
