What would a campaign for Overwatch look like? A fan has already created specific ideas and some cool examples.
Since the release of Overwatch, players have had many wishes about how the game should evolve. However, few wishes are as persistent and loud as the one for a standalone campaign. Fans yearn for a story mode that combines PvE elements and the backstory of the shooter.
Fans’ wishes and hopes continually fuel creativity, as seen with the Reddit user JessMR. They created several examples, with quite elaborate image editing, of what the menu for a story mode could look like.
Story divided into three sections: The fundamental idea is to divide the storyline of Overwatch into 3 broad sections, which would be:
- The Omnic Crisis: The machines attack and chaos reigns everywhere. Conflicts arise all over the world.
- The Golden Age: Overwatch is founded and operates as a respected organization worldwide.
- The Fall: Overwatch falls apart due to several overlapping events that the players experience here.
Missions for different groups: Depending on the mission, the number of players would also vary, corresponding to the respective lore. There would be solo missions, for example, to resolve the conflict between Soldier: 76 and Reaper, allowing players to choose a side.
Other missions would have group sizes of 2-6 players and could thus be completed in co-op.
Bonus objectives and cutscenes: Each mission would have different objectives, sometimes even bonus objectives, such as rescuing civilians. Campaign rewards would include cutscenes and numerous dialogues between characters that reveal more about the backstory.
The whole thing was rewarded with a lot of attention and support – 98% positive feedback and more than 13,000 upvotes.
Rumors have been around for a while: It has been long rumored that Blizzard is working behind the scenes on a story campaign or even a standalone “story expansion”. However, there are no concrete details about it yet. Should there be concrete hints, we will of course report on it.
