In preparation for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, the pre-event for the new expansion is currently running in WoW. This is divided into two phases, with Phase 2 now active. In this phase, a deadly plague awaits you, which will plunge many servers into chaos.
What is changing? Starting with Phase 2 of the WoW Shadowlands pre-event, a new feature will be implemented: the zombie plague. This plague already existed in Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) and caused chaos back then.
There will be crates with contaminated grain in the cities that you can use. This will infect you and turn you into a ghoul. As such, you will be hostile to everything that is not also a ghoul.
Ghouls can attack other players to infect them and turn them into ghouls as well. This creates a kind of chain reaction, through which more and more players become infected and transform. Those who played before WotLK might feel thrown back in time with this event.
When does Phase 2 start? The new zombie event has already started. Since November 18th, you can happily infect your fellow players. Cortyn is already in the thick of it and says: Your tears make the event even better.
Other players are clever in using the zombie plague to sabotage unwanted botters by turning them and preventing them from getting loot.
Zombie Plague in WoW – What you need to know
What should I pay attention to? Especially as a new player, you should not panic. If you are attacked, that is just part of it. It may happen that during this time you are simply not safe in the capital cities.
In general, you will probably not be able to do much in Stormwind or Orgrimmar for the coming week, and probably not in other cities either. Those who have complained so far that the pre-event is an “AFK Simulator” will be taught otherwise by the plague.
Don’t expect much to be happening in the auction house when all players are constantly infected and attacked. Especially banks and auction houses will likely become a popular target for ghouls, as there is almost always someone present that they can attack.
What else does the event offer? You will find some additional quests in Icecrown and can continue to fight the rare bosses that drop powerful loot. However, they now appear every 10 minutes, making them twice as frequent as before. Also, Nathanos is still available as a world boss.
With the additional quests, you can snag more commendations, allowing you to get the rewards from the pre-event faster. So if you want to buy armor or pets, you can do that in Phase 2 quicker.
Otherwise, you still have to wait for the bosses to drop the 34-slot bag or the Blue Proto-Drake. It may take a while until you encounter the boss whose loot you need, but Cortyn reassures: Waiting for the rare mobs is more fun than expected.
