There is news about the interesting MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. Although the developers want to offer a classic experience in the style of Everquest 1, the online role-playing game Pantheon is supposed to provide many surprises and unexpected elements. It is intended to be an MMORPG that fits into our time, the year 2019.
What does Pantheon aim to achieve? The MMORPG fundamentally wants to return to the roots of the genre. At a time when group play was the focus, as seen in Everquest 1:
- Team play is important in Pantheon to solve quests together.
- PvP is – at least for now – not relevant.
Pantheon also wants to become a modern Everquest 1.

Classic yet modern
What do the developers say now? In a new letter from the developers, the team talks about the fact that Pantheon should indeed be classic, but also needs to offer unexpected features.
After all, we are in the year 2019 and not 1999 when Everquest 1 was released.
Today, much more is possible, and the developers want to illustrate this in the game – without diluting the classic gaming experience. It is clear that a modern MMORPG must look good, but looks are not everything.
How can Pantheon achieve this? The developers explain that something new must always be fun and fit the concept. They do not want to forcibly introduce anything that might now be technically feasible, but does not fit the overall concept at all.
A feature that the team considers interesting and sensible is climbing. This was hard to implement in the past, but today it is significantly easier to integrate. You will be able to climb in Pantheon. How exactly this will look is still being worked out by the developers. However, it will be a feature that makes sense and has significance.

Pantheon remains Pantheon
That’s why new features do not change the core of the game: The developers are well aware of what players expect from Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.
- The social aspect and group play are at the forefront.
- The battles must be exciting and tactical.
- Players must face challenges that encourage them to improve continuously.
- The quests should tell engaging stories.
- It should be fun to develop your character.
- The world needs a deep and interesting lore.
All of this is still to be offered by Pantheon. The question is only how to bring this concept of an Everquest 1 into the year 2019 so that it appears modern. What features can be implemented that support this gameplay without turning it into something else?
The team is working on that. When thinking about ideas, they ask whether it fits the concept and how they can implement it sensibly.
When will Pantheon be released? Currently, there is no release date yet. This year, Project Faerthale will start an alpha version that encompasses all game systems and provides a good insight into what the MMORPG will look like upon release.
However, it is not yet determined when Project Faerthale will start.
