On January 25, the VIP demo of Anthem starts. The Executive Producer Mark Darrah has now created a list of the differences between the demo and the main game.
The demo of Anthem will give you the opportunity to get a taste of the game. The main game will be much more extensive than what you can experience in the demo.
However, the differences refer to more than just the available content. There will also be deviations in the balance.
This is how the demo differs according to the developers:
- there are no tutorials
- the player starts somewhere in the middle, not at the beginning
- the pilot (own character) is not created by the player
- the balance will differ significantly
- the economy will differ significantly
- there are still 6 weeks of bug fixes until the release
- there is only one story branch to play
- the balance between missions, strongholds, and freeplay will be different
- the PC controls are slightly less refined than at release
- some things have been renamed for better understanding in the main game
Demo will be “easier” than the main game
What will be easier? You will collect experience points and money in the Anthem demo much faster. This means, you will progress faster and can therefore unlock everything faster. You will not carry over progress from the demo to the game. However, you can carry over progress from the VIP demo to the open demo.
Why is the demo easier? The developers want players to see and test as much as possible in the demo. That is why they decided to adjust the XP curve.
Right at the beginning, all demo players will receive 100 coins to quickly purchase a cosmetic adjustment for the javelin. The customization options for the javelins will be quite diverse.
2 javelins can be played in the demo
Confusion about the number of javelins: In recent days, there have been contradictory statements about which javelins are available to players in the demo. Rumors arose that all four can be played. However, that is not entirely true.
Which javelins can be played in the demo? In principle, all four javelins of Anthem can be played. However, you can only choose two of them in the demo. There is Ranger, Interceptor, Storm, and Colossus. Lead producer Mike Gamble confirmed this again in a tweet.
Gamble also recommends that everyone start with the Ranger in the demo. He is the all-rounder among the javelins and versatile. This should help beginners get used to the javelins. The Ranger will be the javelin that everyone starts with in the main game .
Update 18:40: Our reader Willy Snipes pointed out to us that Gamble’s tweet regarding the Ranger could be taken differently. In that case, it would mean that everyone in the demo must start with the Ranger, and a javelin can be unlocked of choice. This is not entirely clear from the tweet.
If you are playing with friends, it would be advisable to mix the javelins among each other.
