The mobile game League of Legends: Wild Rift is a huge success just 2 weeks after its beta launch. We look at the player numbers and ratings of the mobile MOBA.
Here’s the situation with Wild Rift: The mobile MOBA from the world of League of Legends has been in open beta since December 10. Anyone interested can download the game in their app store.
The interest in the game seems to be enormous. Wild Rift has been downloaded over 10 million times on the Google Play Store alone. The ratings are good and players seem eager for more.
These are the download numbers for Wild Rift
This is how it goes for Android players: According to the Play Store for Android, the game has been downloaded “more than 10 million” times. In addition, there are over 570,000 ratings (as of December 22 at 11:00 AM).
This is how it goes for iOS players: There is no information on download numbers here, but it has at least 17,500 ratings in the App Store. To put this into perspective: Pokémon GO has about 308,000 ratings, but has also been on the market for over 4 years and is considered one of the largest mobile games in the world.
Daniel Ahmad, a video game analyst, also published data from Sensortower, a reputable analytics website, on Twitter. According to the analysis, Wild Rift had already surpassed 12.5 million downloads worldwide on December 18. The number is expected to have increased over the past 4 days.
Furthermore, Wild Rift is said to have generated over 10 million dollars by December 18 alone. The most successful markets for the mobile MOBA are Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Turkey, and Russia. This is particularly noteworthy because Vietnam, like Europe, could only start on December 10.
Other Asian countries were able to access Wild Rift as early as October 27.
What players say about Wild Rift
What do the ratings show? To illustrate this, we first show you the average ratings in the Play Store and the Apple Store:
- 17,500 ratings in the Apple App Store with an average of 3.9 out of 5 stars
- 576,000 ratings in the Play Store for Android with an average of 4.1 out of 5 stars
In general, the ratings are good. However, there are some points of criticism that should not be overlooked.
We present here some ratings from users:
- ZomSkull 05 writes in the Play Store: “The app is really great. Super graphics, the control is also good. Sure, it’s a beta and there are bugs, but they are limited. It’s not pay to win, which is wonderful.”
- Marvin G. states in the Play Store: “A good idea in itself, but it still needs to be revised. Ranked is currently not playable because you cannot express your position wishes before entering the queue. This leads to discussions during the pick phase about who plays what, and most of the time some positions are doubled up.”
- Ricko_Xperiance gives a positive review in the Play Store: “It’s the perfect start for newcomers as the choice of heroes is well manageable and not like on the PC where someone just obliterates you. The controls have been well optimized, and players from Mobile Legends will have no problems.”
What is praised? There are numerous surprised ratings from players who did not expect Wild Rift to be so captivating. The graphics are praised, and many players seem to be comfortable with the controls.
Furthermore, beginners are said to be well integrated, and the entry is easy for numerous players, sometimes even easier than in the PC version.
What is criticized? The most criticism is directed at the position selection in ranked mode. You cannot set your position in advance and must coordinate with your team. This has led to problems for many commentators, resulting in criticism. Here Riot Games has already confirmed that a role selection feature is coming soon.
Moreover, smaller bugs are repeatedly criticized, which some players accept and attribute to the beta phase.
