Mages are getting their beloved Ragnaros back in Hearthstone. Additionally, their hero ability can soon deal 9 damage.
The next expansion of Hearthstone is Rastakhan’s Rumble and will be released in just a few weeks. Blizzard is gradually introducing new cards through streams and YouTubers. We want to present some of the highlights here, so you can already get an impression of the new mechanics coming your way.
Mages Love Ragnaros
Mages seem to have rediscovered their love for Ragnaros as they can summon him with the new minion Jan’alai, the Dragonhawk. It costs 7 mana and has stats of 4/4, and has the Battlecry: “Summon Ragnaros the Firelord if your hero ability has dealt at least 8 damage in this game”.
To make this easier to achieve, mages also have the minion Spirit of the Dragonhawk for 2 mana. It has stats of 0/3 and has Stealth in the first turn, along with the passive effect that the hero ability also hits adjacent minions.
Equally helpful is the Bold Firebreather, a minion with 1/1 stats for just 1 mana. Its Battlecry ensures that the next use of the hero ability in this turn deals 2 additional damage points.
Combining the Bold Firebreather with the Spirit of the Dragonhawk, you can already deal 9 damage with a hero ability, fulfilling the conditions for summoning Ragnaros!
Warlocks Want to Discard Cards
Warlocks seems to be focusing again on the discard mechanic. At least all the cards introduced so far have some benefit from this mechanic.
High Priestess Jeklik is the legendary minion of warlocks. For 4 mana, she has stats of 3/4 and has Taunt and Lifesteal. When you discard this card, you gain 2 copies of it back in your hand. So, in theory, she can almost endlessly multiply.
The Gigantic Terror Troll for 3 mana with stats of 2/6 follows the same theme. He comes with Taunt, but has the Battlecry to discard the lowest-cost card.
The Soulsworn for 6 mana with stats of 6/6 allows lost cards to return. As a Battlecry, she grants the warlock 3 random cards back to their hand that they discarded in this game.
Lastly, there is the spell Wailing Scream for 1 mana that deals 2 damage to all minions, making it a powerful, cheap board clear. In addition to the cost, however, you will discard the lowest-cost card.
Are you looking forward to Rastakhan’s Rumble? Or have you turned your back on Hearthstone recently?
