The new trading feature in Pokémon GO is already causing a lot of discussions. Will a black market arise? Will fraudsters take advantage of that? Niantic has thought about this and explained how the friends feature protects the trading function.
New features in Pokémon GO: The mobile game Pokémon GO is finally getting the functions that trainers have been wishing for a long time: You can trade monsters and add friends.
Trainers’ concerns:
Niantic has thought it through: The developers took extra time with the functions to protect them and the game. Pokémon with 100% IV values depend on various factors to remain strong after the trade. The values change, making it difficult for potential sellers.
High costs for both parties
Extreme amounts of stardust: To prevent the trading feature from being exploited, the developers have associated high costs with trading. Both trainers must pay these costs during a trade. For Pokémon that are already in your own PokéDex, you pay less stardust.
This is where it gets expensive: If new friends perform a special trade to exchange legendary or shiny Pokémon that are not yet in the PokéDex of the other player, a very high amount of stardust must be spent. This is how Niantic wants to prevent a black market from arising and that the feature is exploited. Such a special trade is also only possible once a day.
In the example image, trading a legendary Pokémon costs 1 million stardust. This is a large amount of the sought-after resource that you also spend in Pokémon GO to strengthen Pokémon. Such a trade will not be taken lightly.
IV values change – No 100%-IV offers
High IV values are desirable: Trainers determine the strength of Pokémon based on the IV values. If a Pokémon has high percentages, it is considered strong. Therefore, 100%-IV monsters are sought after by trainers who frequently raid.
But not for the black market:
Before the trade, you see the approximate values:
These factors affect the values:
Uninteresting for foreign providers:
Can you keep trading monsters back and forth until you get good IVs? No, that is not possible. Each Pokémon can only be traded once. This prevents Niantic from allowing trainers to exploit this feature to strengthen all their monsters.
Positive outlook?
So far, it seems that Niantic has prepared for the worst. However, whether or not there will truly be any fraudsters exploiting the trading function in Pokémon GO and potentially ruining the fun with tools like GPS spoofing, cannot be said at this time.
This will only become clear in the next few days.
When will the friendship and trading feature be released?
In the code of Pokémon GO, there are hints about the legendary trio around Regirock
