The Kanto Tour caused problems in Pokémon GO . Now, the start date for a “replacement event” has been set, which not every player can participate in. This is a special research and a gift.
What kind of event is this? In February 2021, the big Kanto Tour took place in Pokémon GO. An event that lasted for several hours on a single day. However, some trainers were plagued by issues during it. It was particularly frustrating for players who purchased a ticket for 12 € and could not properly participate in the paid event afterwards.
Niantic announced on the day of the event that a replacement event for the broken Kanto Tour would take place. On the evening of March 2, the developers announced that it would start in March in the form of a special research.
Bonus Event for Kanto Tour – The Research
When does it start? From March 5 at 10:00 local time, you can tackle the limited research in Pokémon GO. You have one month to do this. The research lasts until April 5 at 10:00 local time – after that, you can no longer complete the tasks.
What does the research reward? This research is intended to reward you with items as compensation. What the tasks will look like is still unclear. You will receive the following rewards for completing:
- 30 Ultra Balls
- One Incense
- One Snorlax
- One Super Incubator
- One Lucky Egg
- Three silver pinap berries
- One Star Piece
- One Elite Charged TM
- One Elite Fast TM
- One Charged TM
- One Fast TM
- 100 Mew Candies
Another reward can be found in the Pokémon GO shop during the period from March 5 to April 5. There’s a free package waiting for you with 3 Remote Raid Passes.
Does every player get this? No. Only players who purchased a ticket for the Kanto Tour can participate in the research or secure this special free package with 3 Remote Raid Passes.

This is what Niantic says: In the blog post on the Pokémon GO website, Niantic writes:
“Trainers, due to a technical issue that occurred during the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, some trainers were able to access the ticketed part of the event without purchasing a ticket.
We apologize for this issue. To give trainers who purchased a ticket a sense of having received the value of the ticket, owners of a paid ticket can participate in a bonus event.”
Pokémon GO started a “Tour” event in February 2021, which they announced back in December. The first theme of this tour is the Kanto region. Pokémon from the first generation were in the spotlight. For the first time, all shinies from Gen 1 were made available in the game.
Trainers could unlock additional special content by purchasing a ticket that trainers without a ticket were not supposed to receive.
Due to the issues that occurred during the event, Niantic set the replacement “event”.

- Remote raids were bugged and could not be started
- Trainers with tickets had no access to the research
- App crashes plagued the event all day
- The game froze for some trainers

Through the limited research and the package with the three Remote Raid Passes, trainers with a ticket are supposed to receive rewards that are only entitled to them. Many complained that trainers without a ticket still unlocked the paid bonuses during the past event and found that unfair.
