New monsters keep coming to Pokémon GO, making the PokéDex fuller. But what is currently a full PokéDex?
You can see this in the PokéDex: As soon as you catch a new Pokémon, it immediately gets an entry in the PokéDex. There you can read information about the Pokémon and see how many specimens you have already caught.
Some Pokémon are regional, which is why they are not so easy to obtain. Other monsters are simply very rare or only available for a limited time. Filling the PokéDex is definitely a challenge.
A Full PokéDex in Pokémon GO
How many Pokémon are there? With the last wave of Pokémon from Generation 4, there are currently, as of May 31, 2019, 485 Pokémon that you can own.
In every generation, there are also many Pokémon that are slightly harder to obtain. We will go through each generation for you.
1st Generation (Kanto Region)
How many Pokémon are there here? All 151 possible Pokémon from the 1st generation are already available in the game. This generation has been available since the release in July 2016.
These special Pokémon are available: In the 1st generation, there are already numerous Pokémon that you could only catch for a limited time or only in specific regions.
- 4 regional Pokémon (Pantimos, Kangama, Tauros, and Porenta)
- 4 legendary Pokémon (Arktos, Zapdos, Lavados, Mewtu)
- 1 mysterious Pokémon (Mew)
- With Ditto, a Pokémon that disguises itself as other monsters
Anyone who has been playing since Day 1 should have no problems with this generation. Each of the regional Pokémon has already been available at events for hatching or catching.
The legendary Pokémon have all been available multiple times in raids. In addition, the three legendary birds were available for several months as research breakthroughs.
You could catch Mew by completing the special research. This is permanently active and should be fairly easy to complete.
2nd Generation (Johto Region)
How many Pokémon are there here? In the 2nd generation, all Pokémon in the game can already be found. The first Pokémon from this region were catchable in February 2017. However, there are only 100 monsters for your PokéDex.
These special Pokémon are available: In the 2nd generation, there aren’t as many regional Pokémon to catch. However, there are more legendary Pokémon in the Johto region.
- 2 regional Pokémon (Skaraborn and Corasonn)
- 5 legendary Pokémon (Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, and Ho-Oh)
- 1 mysterious Pokémon (Celebi)
- With Farbeagle, a Pokémon that you can only get through a photobomb
Corasonn was already available for a few hours everywhere in Europe, making a PokéDex entry easy. However, Skaraborn has not been available at any events in Germany yet.
The legendary Pokémon should not be a problem for your PokéDex. The legendary big cats have already been multiple times available as research breakthroughs. Lugia and Ho-Oh have also made appearances and have been available multiple times in raids.
The special research with Celebi has been active since the last GO Fest in Chicago. It has been active since summer 2018. Farbeagel, on the other hand, has only been in the game for a short time. You can relatively easily obtain this Pokémon with a photobomb.
3rd Generation (Hoenn Region)
How many Pokémon are there here? Currently, you can catch 133 Pokémon from the Hoenn region. 2 monsters from this generation are still missing. The first Pokémon from the 3rd generation could be caught in December 2017.
These special Pokémon are available: The 3rd generation is bursting with legendary and regional Pokémon. There may still be some gaps in the PokéDex.
- 9 regional Pokémon (Lunastein, Sonnfel, Sengo, Vipitis, Tropius, Qurtel, Relicanth, Volbeat, and Ilumise)
- 8 legendary Pokémon (Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Latias, Latios, Regirock, Registeel, and Regice)
- 1 mysterious Pokémon (Deoxys)
- With Formeo, a shape-shifting Pokémon that can take on 4 different forms
The regional Pokémon Lunastein and Sonnfel and Vipitis and Sengo have already swapped regions. You should be able to obtain these monsters without traveling or trading, provided you’ve been playing since the release of that generation. However, Ilumise, Tropius, Qurtel, Relicanth, and Ilumise have never been available to catch in Germany. You would need to travel or trade for those.
All legendary Pokémon have already been available multiple times. Currently, Latias and Latios are available in research breakthroughs.
With Deoxys, we currently have the mysterious Pokémon in EX-Raids. So get an invitation to such raids to complete your PokéDex.
4th Generation (Sinnoh Region)
How many Pokémon are there here? In total, you can have 99 of the 107 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region in your PokéDex. The first monsters from this region were added to the game in October 2018.
These special Pokémon are available: The 4th generation is also full of regional Pokémon. Here, there are also regional Pokémon that are legendary for the first time.
- 6 regional Pokémon (Vesprit, Selfe, Tobutz, Plaudagei, Venuflibis, and Pachirisu)
- 8 legendary Pokémon (Vesprit, Selfe, Tobutz, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Heatran, and Cresselia)
- With Schalellos, a Pokémon with 2 forms, which is also regional
These regional Pokémon, with the exception of Vesprit, are likely still missing for most players. Venuflibis is coming to the GO Fest in Dortmund this July, where you can secure the Dex entry. The others are not currently available here.
All legendary Pokémon have been available for several weeks in recent months. If you were active during this time, you should have these monsters. Selfe and Tobutz are the exceptions here. They are available in other regions.
No mysterious Pokémon from the 4th generation are currently able to be caught. So 4 of these Pokémon are still waiting for their release. However, Schalellos should be almost universal. It suffices for your PokéDex if you only possess one of the forms.
8th Generation – Galar Region
How many Pokémon are there here? Two Pokémon currently represent the 8th generation. With Meltan and its evolution Melmetal, there are only these two Pokémon to catch.
You can get Meltan through a special research or if you trade Pokémon with the Let’s-GO games.
