Many gamers have been waiting for the Android version of Fortnite. This is also clearly reflected in the download numbers of the shooter. How many people play Fortnite? A lot!
The new download numbers show that Fortnite still enjoys extreme popularity.
How many downloads are there now?
- At E3, Epic announced that they have 125 million downloads.
- Additionally, there are now 15 million players who downloaded Fortnite on Android in the first 3 weeks.
Fortnite has now been downloaded more than 140 million times.
The Android release was a strong boost
Initially, Fortnite was available on consoles and PC. Then came the mobile system iOS, for which EPIC released a Fortnite version. So a version for Android was still missing, which initially caused criticism, but then recorded great successes.
How strong was the Android release? In a blog post, EPIC explains the technical challenges behind the Android release. They reveal that 15 million players installed Fortnite on Android in the first 3 weeks after release. 23 million players signed up for the beta.
At E3 2018 in June, they stated that Fortnite had been downloaded 125 million times. With the 15 million players from the Android release, there are now more than 140 million downloads.
There was less success on iOS: In the first four weeks after release for iOS, Fortnite was installed 11 million times on iOS. The larger Fortnite audience is therefore found on Android devices.
Additionally, the downloads on Switch: During E3 2018, Fortnite released the Switch version of their shooter. Since that day, players can also play on Nintendo’s console. There are no exact download numbers.
However, Nintendo has now announced the top charts for downloads in August for the Switch. In North America, Fortnite ranks first ahead of hits like Overcooked 2, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Rocket League.
Through the Switch downloads, the player numbers of Fortnite should thus be significantly higher.
