How many people play the online shooter Fortnite in 2019? Developer Epic announced new player numbers at GDC regarding Fortnite . The shooter has grown again in the past weeks.
This is the total number of registered players Fortnite has: According to Epic, there are currently about 250 million registered players.
This is significantly more than in December 2018, when there were “only” 200 million registrations.
In addition to these numbers, Epic also provided some insights on other figures. We summarize what is known about the player numbers.
This is what the player numbers of Fortnite look like
These numbers are known: In March 2019, Epic announced three different numbers. This includes:
- 250 million registered users
- 78.3 million monthly players
- peaking at 10.8 million concurrent players
This is known about concurrent players: 10.8 million concurrent players is again a record for Fortnite. Just in February, a new record was set when 10.7 million people attended the Marshmello concert live in Fortnite.
Now there is another record. However, it is not known exactly when this record was set.
About 35% of Fortnite players are women
Is there competition? The player numbers are overwhelming. Some time ago, but the sandbox game Minecraft also announced that they have about 91 million monthly players. However, these numbers are already somewhat older.
Epic now also wants to grow larger alongside Fortnite and is offering savvy developers a heap of money:
As a shooter, Fortnite is likely at the top alone. It is also surprising that a large part of the player base is female.
This is a peculiarity: While normally shooters are mostly played by a male audience, estimates suggest that Fortnite has about 35% female players.
The figure comes from Epic CEO Tim Sweeney speaking to the site Engadget, stating that it comes from Fortnite bringing players together in a social experience.
This is what makes Fortnite so popular: The battle royale shooter connects several player groups. On the servers, one can find both classic shooter fans but also a fairly young audience, as Fortnite is already rated for ages 12 and older. Other shooters are rated for 16 or 18 years and older.
