Are the rewards from island expeditions in World of Warcraft completely random? No, more and more players believe so. You can influence the drop chance.
Island expeditions in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth divide the player base. Some cannot relate to the content at all, while others have a lot of fun and even level solely through island expeditions.
However, it has always been a mystery how exactly the loot at the end of an island expedition is determined. Many players suspected that there is simply a very small chance for any item from the entire loot table. However, this seems to be incorrect.
“Named” mobs give loot chance: On Reddit, the user Flak_Knight writes that he leveled some characters solely through island expeditions with his friends and took the time to experiment a bit.
They discovered that the loot received is not completely random, but depends on the events on the island and the killed “named rare mobs” – that is, NPCs that have a unique name.
To increase the chance of special loot, like pets, toys, transmog gear, and mounts, you should always keep an eye on the events and especially kill the NPCs with special names.
An example: Do you want the green parrot mount “Squawk”? Then you should always pay attention to whether pirates are attacking during island expeditions. As soon as they are there, rush to the pirates and kill the rare enemies with a special name. Only then do you have any chance of getting pirate loot at the end.
Would you rather have the mount of the Mogu? Then you should always kill the Mogu rares. This applies to all rewards.
Praise for Blizzard: Flak_Knight praises Blizzard in his post for the fundamental system. For the first time in a long while, it is no longer possible to learn about rewards and their exact acquisition through data mining. Only those who truly explore the islands and their events can get something special.
With Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance, Blizzard will also make further improvements to island expeditions.
Fastest profit is counterproductive: However, there is also some criticism of the system.
If you complete island expeditions with maximum efficiency, always mine large ores, open chests and take down the “large Azerite elemental” with its three giant ores, you do not increase your chance for certain loot. Because these sources are not “named” mobs.
However, if you ignore these Azerite sources, then the other faction will grab the ores and possibly catch up.
Please keep in mind that much of the information is still speculation. However, more and more players are voicing that these observations also correspond to their experiences.
